BROOMFIELD, CO, Jan. 16, 2009 -- ENCRYPTX Corporation (a BeCompliant Company), a leading provider of data security and policy management of removable storage devices, today announced the new DeviceDefender(TM) software offering that adds USB device control management to the previous SecurMedia device protection product. DeviceDefender's new features reduce data leakage, defend the device against the automatic introduction of malware and provides fine grained organizational control and tracking for removable drives and media.
DeviceDefender's USB device control features block unauthorized devices from being used when connected to a PC or Server through the USB port, only allowing pre-approved devices to be used, and quarantining removable devices until they have been scanned and determined to be free of viruses and malware. The previous SecurMedia encryption software offering was launched in 2001 and provided automatic detection and encryption of data and administrative management of USB attached devices, and all types of PC removable storage media including CDs, DVDs, flash drives, removable hard drives, Compact Flash, SD cards, RDX cartridges, and any removable device that is FAT, NTFS or CDFS formatted. DeviceDefender retains those capabilities in addition to the new control management features. Users can choose to initiate features that best fit their environment.
"DeviceDefender and the new functionality is a result of feedback from our enterprise users and meetings with the US Department of Defense DARTT team, the group responsible for the approval of security products used within the DOD and federal government agencies," remarked David Duncan, president of ENCRYPTX. "DeviceDefender represents a new set of USB device management capabilities and realignment from just encryption to automatic device encryption tightly integrated with policy-based control and management over USB attached and other types of removable storage devices."
ENCRYPTX device security products have been protecting consumers, enterprise and government devices and media for nearly a decade.
