Businesses everywhere want computing solutions that do more for less money, and a leading PC maker thinks it has what they need. Lenovo this week unveiled three new desktop PCs targeted at businesses that want solid computing at a budget-minded price. The three ThinkCentre desktop PCs include the ThinkCentre M79, starting at $449, and the ThinkCentre E63z, starting at $479.

Lenovo also introduced the ThinkCentre M53, a small-form-factor desktop comparable to its ThinkCentre M73 and M93p models. Unlike the M79 and E63z, the M53, which starts at $439, isn't yet on the market.

All three new ThinkCentre desktops include Lenovo's Smart USB Protection, giving businesses more control over access to USB ports, the company said. It also includes Trusted Platform Module 1.2 for enhanced data protection. The new units have Solid State Drive (SSD) and Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD) support and energy-saving certifications including Energy Star 6.0 and EPEAT ratings.

"Businesses of all sizes need flexible, dependable and secure PCs to meet the day-to-day rigors of workplace collaboration," Ouyang Jun, vice president and general manager for Desktop and Visuals at Lenovo, said in a statement. "ThinkCentre desktops offer different form factors and configurations, allowing maximum flexibility and end-user productivity in an easily managed and secure environment."

Improved System Performance

The ThinkCentre M79 is powered by an A-Series accelerated processing unit made by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Lenovo said the desktop packs 50 percent more graphic processing muscle than previous APU-powered ThinkCentre systems.

The M79's SSD or SSHD options offer improved system performance. Both small-form-factor and mini-tower models of the M79 can support three independent displays and an optional second DisplayPort connector.

More Security Layers

The ThinkCentre E63z is the only all-in-one of the new desktops. It comes with a 19.5-inch HD+ WLED display. The system is available with optional touchscreen support and has a built-in webcam, a media card reader, voice-over-IP support and a Rapid Charge USB port. Later editions of the E63z will come with advanced Core i3 processors from Intel.

Lenovo has also built some more security layers into the E63z in addition to Smart USB Protection, including CompuTrace and a Kensington slot that doubles as a chassis lock.

The newest member of the ThinkCentre line, the M53, is a mini-desktop aimed at space-conscious users. It includes a remote power up option with a supported keyboard and flexible mounting features to most efficiently use desk space. It can also share accessories and power connectors with other "tiny" Lenovo desktops.

The M53 also comes with a free system management tool, PC Cloud Manager 3.0, as well as an Intelligent Cooling Engine feature that optimizes system cooling and fan acoustics. The M53 is powered by an Intel Pentium chip.
