The new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system rolled out last month was Google's "biggest update of Android to date," with an all-new emphasis on delivering an integrated user experience across multiple devices. However, early users are reporting that Lollipop's sweet changes also come with some less-tasty bugs in need of fixing.

Among the issues emerging recently are problems with quickly draining batteries, Wi-Fi connection difficulties and some devices that are not able to load Lollipop's new "material design" support library. Users in the Netherlands have also reported being unable to send international text messages.

One of the biggest changes that came with Lollipop is its use of what Google calls material design for a consistent look and feel across devices. That is aimed at everything from smartphones and tablets to TVs, wearables and -- eventually -- even Relevant Products/Services electronics.

Material Design with Glitches

In addition to its material design focus, Lollipop has many new features that developers have welcomed. These include a new and more vibrant look, a flashlight shortcut, more information about battery power and charging, an updated notification panel, apps prioritization and an option for adding guest users.

At the same time, though, a growing number of users are also reporting a variety of glitches -- ranging from minor to major -- apparent with the new OS.

The Dutch-language Web site Tweakers, for example, last week reported a bug in which Vodafone users with Nexus devices using Android 5.0 Lollipop were unable to send SMS text messages internationally. And Android Headlines noted that one developer has found a problem with some Samsung smartphones that use older versions of the Android support library; when users try to run Lollipop's new material support library on those phones, the devices crash.

'Annoying Little Bugs'

PCWorld on Monday featured an article listing "Five Android 5.0 Lollipop annoyances Google should fix immediately." Among the "annoying little quirks" it identified: a power menu that includes only a "Power off" option with no additional choices for "Silent mode" or "Flight mode"; an inverted-color option that lasts in the quick settings panel for weeks; the dropping of the notification ticker in lieu of heads-up notifications; a no-interruptions feature that turns off all notifications and alarms; and upward swiping -- rather than side swiping -- to unlock phone and camera shortcuts.

Android Police on Monday also reported some "annoying little bugs" in Android 5.0 Lollipop. The most significant one it identified was an issue in which users say they are unable to connect to their corporate networks. The problem has so far been traced to Cisco access points that run WPA2 with AES encryption, which Android Police notes are "quite common in business."

Several commenters on Android Police noted that Android 5.0 Lollipop also shows heavy RAM usage, requiring users to have to reload.

Users have posted hundreds of entries related to Lollipop on the Android Open Source Project Issue Tracker. Among the common problems being reported are battery issues, dropped Wi-Fi connections and troubles with various apps such as Gallery.

The first devices to feature Android 5.0 Lollipop are the Nexus 9 tablet, Nexus 6 "phablet" phone and Player. Google has said it expects to roll Lollipop out in stages to the Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 and Google Play edition devices.

Lollipop issues with HTC One M8; "Unauthorized" GPS use from apps that have no history of permission or use. Haven't been able to correct beyond app disablement. GPS turns on frequently, often stays on when I'm not using it. HTC Sense was great before. Android tries to catch up with something more complicated and succeeds.

I now have a fancy door stop. Thanks for ruining my Nexus with this useless update. My question now is, what the hell is Google going to do about it?

Only issue I've noticed is that I have to reboot daily as my keyboard will not appear when selecting a text box. Restarting fixes it but is very annoying.

I would like to share and bring this to developers' notice these issues found after upgrade. Of course, no firmware could be a bug free. I am just helping them to identify the most common issues.

Model : I9500 Original Edition

Issues :

1. Battery Drain, Device Overheats -> Happens whenever I enable mobile data. I was not facing this when I was with 4.4.2

2. Contacts app crashes frequently -> No reason at least 5 to 6 times a days it crashes i.e., a message will be displayed saying "contacts app crashed."

3. Touchwiz UI crashes, too, very frequently. Whenever Touchwiz crashes, my home screen wallpaper is gone -> It happens If I enable power saver for least two hours then it happens. Sometimes without reason it crashes.

4. Issues with logging into device when I try to unlock with a password. The keyboard disappears -- not at lock screen -- even when we are in middle of typing a text. Abnormal lag

5. Ringtone Volume: Ringtone Volume will automatically decrease. I often observe this when I set the ringtone volume to more than 80% and enable mobile data/WiFi/Bluetooth. After few hours if I disable the same I find that my ringtone volume is decreased to 20%. Sometimes if I launch games then I feel the same.

I just noticed that even though you may close chrome on your N7, the page never really closes. Make sure that you actually close and log out of your web pages. I had forgotten and hours later there was my pay check wide open. I have contacted the payer, as it usually times out. This may be an Android bug for them as well.

On Nexus 4:
Bull Gallery app removed.
When I use Video Chat, mobile restarting.
Internet access very slow compared to 4.4.4

Lots of issues as mentioned below by many users facing multiple and different problems. Hope they have a fix.

Using Nexus 4:

1. Battery draining very fast.
2. RAM almost 2gb consumption.
3. Mobile heating when playing games more than 20mins.
4. Chrome update is not good.
5. User Dictionary is disturbed, unable to add personal/frequently using words.

Mainly sad about RAM and gaming issues.

I wonder if Google tester ever existed? Looks like they simply make a new build and then distribute it to users? Skype doesn't work. There is a workaround though. You need to reinstall it or at least clear data from settings->App. I now do this whenever I need to call on Skype. Gallery was a very nice app. The replacement is UGLY and unusable.

Touch the power button and it automatically shuts off. Anyone else having that issue? I can't even turn my screen off anymore.

Mad problems I'm having with my nexus 6, where to start? Let's see, first of all it starts to run very slowly and animations start to jitter. When I am listening to pandora or another music player and I have an app download something in the background like podcasts from pocketcast it starts to stutter and hiss when listening to music, also the volume overall is too low on the nexus 6. Sometimes when I get calls from people the ringtone sounds totally messed up and staticy/choppy. The sound is totally messed up no matter what ringtone I choose and when I try to answer the phone it starts to crackle bad through the speakers even with headphones on. Speaking of more sound problems, popping and crackling sounds randomly happen when using google now or hitting the microphone to activate google now. Battery drain is way insane on this phone, I barely use it and its eating up battery like mad not sure from what.. the amoled screen is almost pinkish when the brightness is down to low and I hear reports of burn ins on the onscreen buttons although I have not run into this problem yet. I am going to have to send this back, I had high hopes for this phone and was very excited the first day or two but it's looking bad now and I'm not sure I can wait on updates to fix these problems that I am running into on a daily basis.

I am not at all pleased with Androids latest upgrade it has created many issues with my Nexus 5 phone. Email access has become an issue, unable to access bulk of the time, unable to use Magic Jack, Go app will not operate properly. I question security on phone for banking or anything else that needs security. Would like to go back to last version. Old version should be re-established as a download. Lollipop should go back to the drawing board until it is cleaned up. I am considering going to a different operating system and using Android no longer.

This update really messed up my phone.
1. I have Lookout Security open in my notification bar and the icon keeps randomly disappearing and I sometimes wind up having to manually open it back up.
2. Facebook crashes. Can't look at links that people share anymore because the screen goes white.
3. the keyboard disappears when I'm in the middle of typing something.
4. When I'm on Google, if I click on a link to a page, the page will be almost done loading, and then it will go back to the results page.
5. I have an app that changes my wallpaper to pictures from a Subreddit and the stupid phone changed my wallpaper to some hideous generic wallpaper.
6. Sometimes it takes a while for the apps on my home page to show up, so they're gone for a few seconds.
7. And, of course, the bugs that others are complaining about such as there being no silent mode or airplane mode when you hold down the power button, and my phone just being very slow overall.
I'm really starting to hate my phone because of this update and am really regretting installing it. Oh, and i did a scan on my phone to make sure there aren't any viruses and it came up clear.

The phone moves slower, that's for sure. It keeps affecting all my apps from facebook to whatsapp. I'm honestly getting really annoyed with it, the notifications don't function properly. They took out the gallery which really pissed me off. Now I have to use this google photo crap that doesn't even organize my folders properly and shows me my online account instead of what I have on my phone.

Don't they do trial tests before releasing these updates?

Since the install, the hotspotshield vpn, temple run, and magic jack apps keep crashing. Battery improved a bit but I was shocked when one day it just drained within an hour. Screen time showed 50% but phone screen was off. Don't know how that happened. I reinstalled lollipop and I am waiting to see if anything out of the ordinary happens again. NEXUS4

1. Apps keeps on crashing.
2. Flash player doesn't work
3. Phone got a bit slower
4. Doesn't seem to see any improvement in battery life -rather, it got reduced
5. Best option:? want to downgrade back to as:)

My biggest complaint is the default dialer app. It is so confusing and everything requires multiple clicks. Why do I have to click twice to call someone from the missed call list. Imagine you are driving and now you have to look for right options. Also if you click "call back" option twice there is no indication that a call is now in progress. Very busy design. Now I am looking for a simpler dialer. A bit disappointed with the lollipop update.

Not a single application works on my nexus 4 after upgrading to lollipop including viber, instagram, yahoo mail, pinterest, etc. My device is pretty much useless now! This should be fixed earlier than very soon!

Ringtone set only rings intermittently; I get the notification sound as the ringtone 50 percent of the time. Google Search bar across the top of the screen is no longer transparent and is now a large white rectangle across the screen. Ugggh! Not too impressed so far!

My biggest complaint is with GPS. I can get a lock but my location remains frozen in place, sometimes for minutes, it will then start to move, then freeze again. Hard to use maps for navigation this way.

I am facing issues opening MagicJack app on my Nexus 5, which I upgraded to Lollipop 2 days ago. The MagicJack App fails to open up. Tries to open twice and something kills it. I uninstalled the app and installed again with hope that app might ask for registration, and I will be able to activate the App post registration. But nothing works. I hope someone fixes this issue.

It's totally annoying on Nexus 5. I have to reboot my phone after every single full charge because of RAM heavy usage.

A lot of bugs with the Android 5 on my Nexus 7. It takes long time to load, lower performance than with previous version, the worst is with Facebook, it disappears from the screen without any notice. Please a prompt revision, it is driving me crazy!!

I'm a Nexus 5 owner and It's definitely awesome, but it's also definitely very buggy right now. It's not as smooth as KitKat as of yet. Reminds me of when Ice Cream Sandwich was released and how much better/how jagged that was. Not snappy.
