When Google recently rolled out the new Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, it touted the release as its biggest Android update yet, with an emphasis on delivering an integrated experience across multiple devices. However, early users are fuming mad over Lollipop, with bugs and problems souring the Lollipop experience.

What's the problem? As one of our commenters wrote, "Where do I begin?" Batteries that drain too fast, Wi-Fi connection difficulties, and apps not working properly. Some have also reported trouble loading Lollipop's new "material design" support library that is supposed to provide a consistent look and feel across devices, on everything from smartphones and tablets to TVs, wearables, and one day, even Relevant Products/Services electronics.

The first devices to feature Android 5.0 Lollipop are the Nexus 9 tablet, Nexus 6 "phablet" phone and Player. Google has said it expects to roll out Lollipop in stages to the Nexus 4, 5, 7 and 10 and Google Play edition devices. However, based on our readers' comments, stabilizing the new release has to be the first priority.

Users have already posted hundreds of entries related to Lollipop on the Android Open Source Project Issue Tracker, all very much in line with our own readers' experiences.

Here's just a taste of what's souring our readers on the Lollipop release.

Slow, Shaky and Quite a Drain

Reader 'cifigeek4life Nick' wrote that he is having "mad problems" with his Nexus 6 phone. "It starts to run very slowly and animations start to jitter." When listening to Pandora or another music player and then downloading an app or a podcast, the system starts to stutter and hiss, and the volume overall is too low. Sometimes the ringtone for incoming calls "sounds totally messed up and staticy/choppy."

In addition, he shared, the sound "is totally messed up no matter what ringtone" he chooses and when he tries to answer the phone, "it starts to crackle bad through the speakers, even with headphones on. Speaking of more sound problems," he adds, "popping and crackling sounds randomly happen when using Google Now or hitting the microphone to activate Google Now."

Nick wrote that he had high hopes for the Nexus 6, but may have to return it if the daily problems aren't fixed soon. "Battery drain is way insane on this phone, I barely use it and it's eating up battery like mad, not sure from what."

Back to the Drawing Board

Commenter William Dickson shared his complaints as well, writing that he is not at all pleased with Android's latest upgrade and the many problems it has created with his Nexus 5 phone. Email access has become an issue, he wrote, as he is unable to access it the bulk of the time and unable to use Magic Jack. In addition, the Go app will not operate properly.

"I question security on the phone for banking or anything else that needs security," Dickson wrote, adding that he would like to go back to the former version, and suggesting that it be re-established as a download. "Lollipop should go back to the drawing board until it is cleaned up. I am considering going to a different operating system and using Android no longer."

Not Impressed

One commenter identified as "Irritated" expanded on the problems: "The phone moves slower, that's for sure. It keeps affecting all my apps from Facebook to WhatsApp. I'm honestly getting really annoyed with it. The notifications don't function properly."

This irritated user also complained that, "they took out Gallery," and now the Google photo app "doesn't even organize my folders properly and shows me my online account instead of what I have on my phone."

Irritated asked, "Don't they do trial tests before releasing these updates?"

Raghunath also reported trouble with Gallery not being available, and the need to have a silent mode shortcut, and a working Data shortcut on the front screen.

Will wrote simply, "Laggy and keeps crashing. Not impressed."

Reader CLS was also less than impressed, pointing out a few specific concerns: "The ringtone set only rings intermittently; I get the notification sound as the ringtone 50 percent of the time. The Google Search bar across the top of the screen is no longer transparent and is now a large white rectangle across the screen. Ugggh! Not too impressed so far!"

App Troubles

Many of our readers reported issues with apps, including Mithra, who wrote, "I have an issue opening Magic Jack. It doesn't work with Nexus 4 Android 5, and the battery drains in a few hours. Hope this issue get fixed soon."

Fiedel with a Nexus 4 added, "Since the install, the hotspotshield vpn, temple run, and magic jack apps keep crashing. Battery improved a bit, but I was shocked when one day it just drained within an hour. Screen time showed 50% but the phone screen was off. Don't know how that happened. I reinstalled Lollipop and I am waiting to see if anything out of the ordinary happens again."

Ash wrote that he is a bit disappointed with the Lollipop update, explaining his biggest complaint is the default dialer app and its very busy design. "It is so confusing and everything requires multiple clicks. Why do I have to click twice to call someone from the missed call list. Imagine you are driving and now you have to look for the right options. Also, if you click the 'call back' option twice, there is no indication that a call is now in progress."

Another reader named Mehdi encountered more extensive trouble, concluding, "My device is pretty much useless now. Not a single application works on my Nexus 4 after upgrading to Lollipop including Viber, Instagram, Yahoo Mail, Pinterest, etc."

For Dan, the biggest complaint is with GPS. "I can get a lock, but my location remains frozen in place, sometimes for minutes. It will then start to move, then freeze again," adding that it's "hard to use maps for navigation this way."

Time Is of the Essence

A reader identifying himself as Homicide Detective Smith wrote, the "only bug I find annoying is receiving and sending text messages 1 hour late!"

Alan Edgar chimed in on troubles with battery life. "Since updating to 5.0, my Nexus 5 battery drains in about 4 to 5 hours. This is extremely annoying, as this is my only phone. I hope Google fixes this issue soon."

Ali agreed with fellow commenters that Lollipop shows heavy RAM usage, requiring users to have to reload. "It's totally annoying on the Nexus 5," Ali wrote. "I have to reboot my phone after every single full charge because of RAM heavy usage."

Nikhil Chopra summed up the complaints of many others: (1) Apps keep crashing. (2) Flash player doesn't work. (3) The phone got a bit slower. (4) There doesn't seem to be any improvement in battery life -- rather, it seems to have been reduced. The best option? Chopra suggests going back to the former release and many others seem to agree.

Looking at the bright side, Tim wrote: "I'm a Nexus 5 owner and it's definitely awesome, but it's also definitely very buggy right now. It's not as smooth as KitKat as of yet. Reminds me of when Ice Cream Sandwich was released and how much better [but] how jagged that was."

Indeed most agree, Google better sweeten Lollipop real soon before more users get soured on the Android experience.

All I want to do is get the job done. Today I went home frustrated. Instead of using tools I use everyday, I spent my energy trying to figure out how to work around the update. No good. I am looking for answers. Is it APPLE?

Finding Bluetooth unusable because of "stuttering" when put through external Bluetooth speaker. Didn't happen with KitKat tablet.

Did the android upgrade today on my S3 and I HATE IT!!! It's ruined my phone... I used to enjoy it and hated Apple. NOW after being a huge fan of Android and Samsung for years, I'm seriously considering switching to Apple.

Sam:

So annoyed!!! I was a bit skeptical about switching from iPhone to Samsung.... But took the jump that I wished I didn't..... This is the 3rd phone in the space of 4 months that I'm going to have to return due to either update problems or fault with each phone. However I updated yesterday 13.9.16 on my Samsung 7 edge, which was working perfectly, and now the screen is green and flickering, and was really hot. It keeps turning off and then it won't turn on for hours, and when it does, it's green for a bit before having a full black screen. But the phone is on and I can receive calls just can not access the screen. Without a my phone working I'm unable to go to work today as it plays a very important part in my job. Samsung have definitely put me off being a customer and I will Deffo not recommend them. Should have stuck to Apple.....

Was actually searching re my 5.1 lollipop tablet but same here -- crashes all the time, have to recharge constantly, want constant landscape but refuses despite all efforts. Maddening to use it more than 5 minutes. A giant piece of crap in my opinion.

Kevin:

Some apps won't work in landscape. I have keep waiting between landscape and portrait. Certain letters don't work in a certain way. It is cracking me up. I can't take pics in messenger and my pulldown bar won't work in landscape, so I downloaded a pulldown bar in play store.

As with all Samsung upgrades...IT STINKS!!
My keyboard will freeze my screen and not even allow me to shutdown the phone (GS-5) because it blocks the page. Have to remove battery all the time. Starting to look at iPhones. I've had it with them. Simply the WORST company ever. My HD TV came with a defective motherboard. Getting rid of all SAMSUNG PRODUCTS ASAP!!! Will stick with SONY or PANASONIC for TV's.

Software upgrade crashed both my husband's and my LG G3 phones. They just power on and off in an endless loop. Now we need new phones. Phones should be replaced by Google or Carrier when it's their fault for not notifying customers of glitches in the upgrades with certain models. Or fix our phones for free. Software Upgrades Suck:{

I hate it. I used to love my phone. I called it "my baby." And now I can honestly admit that I don't like my phone anymore. It's not the phone that changed, but the update.

I was sleeping and saw my screen had shut on. I got up to check on it and they had force started an update. I had been asked by it before. But I clicked "ask me later" to give me time to back up my stuff first because one update years ago resulted in the loss of priceless pictures and documents. Well like two hours later, it finished the unwanted update and rebooted.

I was relieved to see my photos so I was happy. I had no idea that over days of use, I would learn how screwed up it was and start hating my phone. The thing that I noticed first that was most upsetting was the absurd battery usage.

Also, something else that I personally despise (I know some like it), is the damn "do not disturb" thingy. It used to be a separate button and its own thing but now it's integrated with my primary volume button. When I press the volume button instead of sound, vibrate, or silent, I get some huge confusing screen.

What about up normal people who just liked it simple and working properly? Why do they force this untested crap on us? When you pay hundreds of dollars for expensive smartphones and data plans, you'd think you would be rewarded with quality and class (not all this bull crap).

I agree with everyone regarding the Lollipop update. I have a G3 phone and it is basically in very nice new condition. About two months ago I woke up to my phone doing a factory reset. I thought somebody hacked my phone and did me dirty.

I lost 1000 pictures that to me were priceless, my phone contacts and other important information I keep on my phone. My phone is my lifeline and I don't know about you but this hurt me more than a relationship break up. I am still not over it.

Anyways this forced factory reset and update put the Lollipop 5.0 installation on my phone without giving me the option to not update. I never update my phone because it always messes up the apps when I really like the way they work.

Shortly after when I used the camera my phone would re-boot then it started to re-boot all the time until finally it would not stay on it just re-booted over and over. I spoke to T-Mobile, which blamed LG, I argued with LG, which blamed Google. I argued with Google, which put the responsibility back on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile tells me my phone is out of warranty and there is nothing they can do and to contact LG. I am so freakin' frustrated I am about to go bananas. Doesn't anyone make good to customers anymore especially when it is their f*#! up. I had to go buy a temporary T-Mobile phone, which is a coolpad 3320A and I absolutely hate it. I barely have anything on it and storage and memory are low.

I live paycheck to paycheck literally and cannot even afford to buy this extra phone in fact I still owe the $50 for it. I completely do not understand how less than two years ago, I could pay almost a $1000 for a phone and be told that after a year if it dies it's too bad because it's out of warranty.

I could understand if I broke it, got a virus from sites I visited, dropped it in water -- whatever. But for an update that was forced upon me without any choice -- come on.

Basically T-Mobile is telling me a big FU as a dedicated loyal customer of over 10 years. Really???? I saw the posting from Steve dated 01/31/16 where he had an LG G2 and won a settlement against Verizon.

I would totally do this and sue T-Mobile, I just do not have the funds to do so. Please someone help me with advice I just want my G3 phone again and to be reimbursed for this $50 crap phone I had no choice to purchase.

I am at my wits end literally and don't know what else to do. I want to put this out on social media giving all three companies a bad rap. If I could afford it I would totally go with a different carrier and operating system and search engine all together LG, T-Mobile and Google. They make billions of dollars and treat their customers like crap.

I had the best phone ever. My Samsung note 3 was the best. I used to tell everyone how brilliant it was. I have just updated because they said I should and I now hate everything about my phone. Does anyone know ho I can get rid of the last ap and go back to my lovely phone?

I couldn't be more disappointed! I went from having the best phone I've ever had to literally wanting to crush it in my hands every time I hold it. My phone sucks and now has to live on a USB leash. I used to promote how good android was to everyone I talked to. Told them all the reasons I'd never leave them. Now I'm sitting here writing this as my phone just died - WHILE PLUGGED IN! THE THING WON'T EVEN CHARGE FASTER THAN IT SUCKS BATTERY WHILE THE SCREEN IS AT MINIMUM BRIGHTNESS! Samsung and every associated with this product - You took away the best phone I've ever had, and turned it into a burden. SLOW, GLITCHY, EXCESSIVE MEMORY USAGE, POOR PERFORMANCE...everything is not only worse, it absolutely sucks!

I had this "update" (which I consider a downgrade). Where should I begin? Jesus wept... I can't say how much I regret. I was proud of my mobilo Note 3. Really fast and everything... until this 5.0. After that, my mobile it works like a sleepy turtle, battery goes down as fast as the flash, multiwindow option doesn't work properly anymore. I mean...whadafock is that?

Going to a new operating system. I LOVED my android after switching from Apple 3 years ago. This update completly ruined my phone. Everything is glitchy. I can't delete anything. It won't let me reposition my app. The home screen just shakes when I try to turn pages. Hate it.

It's been several months I hate it just as much today as I did the day it downloaded. I avoided the upgrade to the point of constant harassment. The upgrade interrupted me it seemed every few minutes or so. After a long while, each time I'd pick up my phone to use it the upgrade would just begin by itself. Finally after much cursing and again PURE harassment, I just set the phone down in disgust and it upgraded. Upgraded is not what occurred. It has been a nightmare ever since. I'm unsure why this upgrade was believed to be a good idea. Terrible move. I experience constant connection issues. Horrible.

I have an LG G2. Lollipop damaged my phone and I got the run around. Verizon blamed LG. LG blamed Google. Google blamed Verizon. I recorded all conversations. I went back to Verizon with all my recordings and they admitted they forced the update. I even called Verizon before it installed to specifically request that my phone not receive the update. Eventually Verizon forces the update onto their subscriber phones without your approval. I have this admission recorded as well. You can secretly record depending on the state you are calling for customer service.

My device had unfixable problems immediately after Verizon forced update. Verizon sent a refurbished phone to replace but I had a ton of apps and data that needed to be restored/ transferred over. Verizon claimed no additional liability after replacing my phone. I took Verizon to small claims court because all limitations on liability and mode of legal action in customer agreement are out the window because forcing an update on my device is not part of the subscriber agreement. Court agreed no limitation on liability and awarded an extra $490 plus prevailing party fee and court costs for $715 total. Verizon paid the judgment about 6 weeks later. If you do not voluntarily install update, keep this in mind. If I had it to do over, I would have gone straight to court and rolled the cost of the phone into my damage claim instead of accepting Verizon's refurbished phone. Verizon's only defense is that the customer agreement limits liability. They repeated this over and over. Keep in mind this is their interpretation and is not the correct interpretation.

They owe more than just a replacement phone. They owe the labor it takes to restore everything. I have put Verizon on notice again that I do not want any updates to this device. The next update that damages my phone will cost them again.

It's Garbage. Last year's model tablet RCA with 4.4.2 lasted 6 hours more on battery than the newer model stuck with 5.0.

5.0 hangs and the sound is terrible as it doesn't properly utilize your processor or memory. It also looks like they went for bright and gimmicky to appease the iFad folks who switched to Android.

We want a better version of KitKat. I am glad I turned off updates on my phone by rooting it. Lollipop is just Garbage.

I have talked to Kyocera Corporate office and they explained to me I might as well hold my breath and die if I am going to wait for metropcs to get Kyocera to write the marshmallow 6.0 update for the Kyocera hydro wave. So if you have this phone, throwing it against a brick wall will do you about as much good as it does with the Android 5.1 operating system. It's a great phone to get rid of, and two companies that don't give a damn about your problems with your phone are metropcs and Android. They could care less about the problems you have, but if you would like to voice your opinion about this phone, call Kyocera Corporate office @ (858) 882-1515. Lollipops are for suckers and so I guess Android with their lollipop version is just calling all of us big fat suckers.

This new update is a complete and utter failure. Drains the battery faster than the sound of a scared fart. Txts that go through hours later if at all, same as receiving. Apps uninstalling on their own. I had to restart my phone this morning just to be able to check the weather forecast and go online. In an age were technology is advancing, this blunder is like presenting an ordinary rock at a robot convetion. They either need to start hiring testers or fire the ones they have.

Hi Sue!

Great timely article. Thank you!

After the automatic Lollipop update to my 7" ten-month-old Kit Kat Asus Fonepad LTE 7 phablet, it takes twice as long to charge and to start up. I had to delete most of my apps as the Lollipop update took up 650mb. The update limits more now than before in many aspects.

Most horrific of all, my important lecture notes et al cannot be accessed now as my Notepad app no longer works after this update.

The only good that came out of this update is that I can now transfer files to my micro SD Card.

I absolutely loveD my Android phablet and useD it extensively daily before the update. However, the update has turned it into a RELIC with limited usage.

I have now replaced it with an 8" Windows tablet which allows me many liberties an Android does not.

With a Windows OS, photo editing and websites now work wonderfully well and it is a breeze sending emails!

To Google:
Thank you for a great platform. However, we should never be guinea pigs for new firmware. Unleashing it without fully testing it will only take your supporters elsewhere.

As of reading this article, my S4 battery life dropped 10 percent and I read at a normal pace. The speech to text occasionally will stay on even when I hit the back button and requires a reboot. I own an Xperia Z1 Compact and I have been using it for the past two years. I started with using KitKat and updated to Lollipop 5.0 and after the update the battery began to show problems.

As the thread mentioned the charge suddently drops from 50% to almost 15% and then within a minute will fall down to zero and the phone will switch off. I thought it was a software problem and after doing much research on the Internet, I updated the software to Lollipop 5.1. But still the problem was there and it was getting worse. Then I read somewhere in a blog post to try to replace the battery.

I went to a Sony Service center and within two days they found out that the culprit was a faulty battery and replaced it. Now I am getting a decent battery life and my phone is back to normal. Even though I did not put it on stamina mode, I am getting a full day charge. Almost the same condition as it was when I had KitKat :-)

So friends, don't waste your time updating software. Go to service center and replace your battery! It's the ultimate solution. I can assure you you will be happy after getting this done.

Google will never admit that Lollipop was a disaster that ruined MILLIONS of phones. My Samsung 4 that I loved is now utterly useless I will be going to Apple in 6 months. I have insurance. Yes my carrier "replaced " the phone. Now I have another useless phone. They just traded one handful of garbage for another.

Stupid system. I click settings and music player opens. Voice unlock doesn't work, when I type 5, it types two 7s instead. Horribly slow, and much worse than android 4.4.4

LOLLIPOP: Sony and Android should be ashamed with themselves. Lollipop on my Xperia Z has rendered it a slow malfunctioning piece of crap. Wifi probs, syncing probs, battery probs. Have lost very useful apps now not functioning. Some completely disappeared. I AM RAGING.

Updated my HTC M9. I keep getting random Web site pop-ups, then it redirects to an app to download. The clock app that comes pre-loaded on the phone now doesn't even play the alarms that I've set (which really screwed me over in one instance). The battery becomes very hot and drains very quickly as well

Loaded 5.0 on my Sony and now I keep getting a low signal notification, there seems no to be no way to turn this off and it's driving me mad. Why I need to know that I have no signal is beyond me! Not only does it tell me I have lost signal it then let's me know it's back. It can do this rapidly in the space of a minute. Grrr rant over!!!

I find it odd so few people have mentioned the stupid pop up notifications for wifi and messages etc. I have tried he's up app on my note 3 and it does nothing. Bring back the ticker notification option. This is moronic that I have to have pop up to tell me I'm am connected to the bloody wifi I can see my notification bar quite fine thank you. They messed up just like they did on Google maps. This looks like the work of a 10yr old.

This really UGLY LolliFlop which I did not ask for (Why can't I opt out of a OS upgrade on a device I own which worked greatly whilst on Kitkat? ) acts more like a virus on my Samsung Note 3, rather than an upgrade. Google couldn't have found a better marketing strategy to promote iPhones or Windows phones to Android fans... As I like neither of them, I will try EVERYTHING I can to roll back to Kitkat. My Note 3 now lags, freezes, calls anyone from my Contacts list without me launching calls, I can't answer calls when the phone rings, apps open in the background, the battery drains like an open tap, the WiFi doesn't hold more than 3 secs, the phone is burning hot I can hardly hold it, and so many other problems I lose interest in listing them all. The interface looks like it has traveled back in time to the 70s, the white background is a strain on the eye, etc... etc... Maybe returning to a flip phone would get me back my serene life. Do I really need to be online 24/7, 365/365? Anyway, I feel like Google's conduct is improper to impose its LolliFlop that sabotages many high cost phones.

This is a simple thing: Goggle should have included a system rollback option so that you could at least try the new OS for a while and if there was any bugs for your specific device, you could revert to a functional system...

I have 3 Android devices on Lollipop and the BBC Weather app no longer works. This app was recently updated to version 2 and it seems that the people who did the re-write went and broke their own app.

I have found a version that works i.e. The last version before the upgrade.

If you Google "apk mirror" and look for BBC Weather Version 1.2.8 you will find that this will roll you back to the last good version.

You will have to download this app and install the .apk file from your download folder.

You'll firstly need to enable "Install from unknown sources" in your settings to allow the download.

If you have antiviral software it will check the download.

And after the install you'll need to stop this app from automatically updating via the Google Play Store.

You'll then need to re-enable protection in your settings to disable installs from other sources.

I have now fixed all three of my Android devices and I won't be updating this app again until the BBC fix their poorly coded app.

Hope this is of help.

Just bought a blu X with the option to upgrade to lollipop... as many bugs and problems that it has, I won't be upgrading for awhile... do your research before upgrading to the NEWEST OS. Google did this on purpose to see how many suckers are in the world. (suckers, lollipop)

Never buying an HTC again:

Carrier: Verizon Wireless
Phone: HTC M8

Avoided lollipop for the longest time out of fear, but phone recently updated despite me. Then the worst customer experience of my life began to unfold.

In the end, HTC manned up and admitted that lolly was a giant bowl of pooh, and eventually Verizon manned up and admitted that a happy customer was better than none at all.

Number of hours of arguing with people about rights and responsibilities, or THEIR outright lies to me to avoid living up to treating me like a customer they cared about? About 7. Sad, but true.

Pandora and Google Maps will no longer voice through Bluetooth. They both will play but not through the Bluetooth. I have noticed that after having the device on for longer than 2 days (even 1 sometimes), everything just stops working properly... SMS notifications randomly decide that they don't need to show up until I open the app, apps "refresh" when switching between them (music sometimes stops playing with stock app and Soundcloud), the lock screen notifications become buggy and stop working (I can't interact with the notifs until I unlock and even then, sometimes the notif pane "freezes")... there's probably more I haven't noticed yet or forgotten.

The only way to make everything work properly again is to turn the phone off and turn it back on then it just all acts normal again.

I had none of these issues with the previous OS on my Sony Xperia Z1.

I hate mine for many different reasons and I can see I am not alone. This reminds me of the HUGE blunder Coke Cola made back in the day changing Coke. It stank too and the people revolted in mass. Result...they went back to Coke Classic and their new Coke went into only a bad memory. Maybe the same needs to be done here to Google. The bottom line is if you force a BAD product on your customers and they hate it, you need to admit it and make it right. But if nothing is said by the unhappy, nothing is going to change. Do you know of a way we can complain?

My S5 is kinda screwed up because of lollipop. The benchmarks are still excellent but real world performance is extremely dissapointing. The texting is slow. Slow on speaking it in. Lots of times have to repeat yourself over and over. Even Google Talk does not work at times. I hate we cannot put different sounds to notifications. Android 5.0.2 update has destroyed the usefulness of my Samsung Galaxy 10.1" Tab-4.

I bought this tablet for one important reason, to be used as an mp3, mp4 player to play music backing tracks when I play guitar. Everything was working great BEFORE I was hounded into an update from Android 4.4.2.

Now every time a new song loads or ends, when using the headphone output jack, it causes a very loud pop through my amp speakers. I have tried every audio amp and mixer tweak thinkable to no avail. With no warning or consistency, the earphone jack shuts off, and sound becomes present at internal speakers, shutting off send to main amplified speakers.

Under advice of Samsung tech, I backed up my files, reset my tab-4 to factory specs, and reinstalled 5.0.2 android then reloaed my song files.

AFTER ALL THAT NON-PRODUCTIVE waste of my time, Same Results!

I hate this annoying unsolicited invasion into my personal enjoyment of my expensive tablet.

Besides all of the listed complaints below that my Verizon S4 has, I cannot answer phone calls, I have to call them back. Whenever someone calls and I swipe the green button or press it, the phone rejects the call. While we sat next to each other, my girl called me 5 times before the phone answered the call properly from there on out, but after I rebooted it to refresh it from battery and RAM drain, it went back to rejecting calls. The phone companies are like the gov, they don't care as most people are just going to sit and take it, and just complain on message boards.

Lolliflop it is then! It is very frustrating to see all the issues that came with this update. I'm probably a lucky one, I have a note 3 and most of the apps work ok but the most important ones. I had Delayed Lock which works flawlessly on KitKat but won't work on Lollipop, causing me a lot of problems when driving. The only way to avoid it is to have no lock on my phone, which is what I have to do now. Google's own implementation of smart lock has never once worked on my phone, even though I have it all set up. It's just like the settings were there for show only. Drive mode used to automatically turn on bluetooth in KitKat and now that's also gone; have to manually turn them on myself. Others like the Recently apps screen look great but sluggish when tab on them. What is funny is that when they were talking at Google IO last year, they said they want users to use their lock screen, and I was, with delayed lock it was perfect. Now they've disabled the use of this app for me and their smart lock doesn't even work once. Well that could be Samsung as well I think. But all in all, it's frustrating to see that the multi-billion company just doesn't do what they're supposed to do. I'm not a fan of any OS company, but it's starting to be like all the others users here said, it's about time to switch over to Apple. Maybe I was wrong all along, they are the best.

I had to reset using the PC App and lost all of my videos -- even ones of my kids -- forever. My Sony Xperia has been the best phone I've owned. I foolishly upgraded and trusted instead of doing my homework and now this crappy bug ridden version has ruined my experience. I have spent days finding ways to fix these bugs and still they keep coming. I am fed up and now I feel enough rage -- I really feel rage enough to do something stupid like to switch back to Apple or even give Windows-Ugh, I could give a Windows phone a try. I updated my Samsung Galaxy S4 (AT&T) to the new version of Lollipop. Somehow, I haven't had some of the problems experienced by others. I haven't had a battery problem...so far. But I will say for my phone, it's turned into the closest thing to a Gameboy; I have to go through so many hoops to get at what I need! And of course, there's been some more bloatware added! Since I can't get rid of them, I have learned to disable them.

The #1 gripe that I have is, the ringtone volume going down after a call! I've missed a few calls because of it. I just got a tip to turn off "vibration when the phone rings". I hope this solves the problem.

#2) Somehow, it made my “Samsung Calendar” disappear. Luckily, I had synced with Google. I had to get the “Google Calendar” app to retrieve the information but I still had to fill in some blanks. I didn't like the “Google Calendar” display, so I downloaded “DigiCal”. “DigiCal” has the same display as the old “Samsung Calendar”. This actually works out better for me. I can use either one to “color code” an event. Then I can tell at a glance, what's coming up. However, entering an event in “Google Calendar”, doesn't give you the ability to show you as “available” or “busy” & change the privacy settings. I have to go to “DigiCal” to do that. (They do sync correctly!)

#3) Changes made to phone "favorites". Now, it automatically calls the contact, instead of displaying their information. The only way to look at their information is go to "Contacts" page & do a search! It makes it harder when someone needs information on a favorite contact (Where do you get your hair cut, etc).

#4) Changes to the Lock screen. The time display is smaller (with no ability to customize it, like the lock message) & any time there were notifications, they showed up & made the time even smaller. I found out that if you go to:
Settings>My Device>Sounds and Notifications>While Locked
There are 3 options: Show all content, Hide sensitive content, Do not show notifications. I chose "Do not show" & that solved that problem.

#5) Receiving a message notification, can no longer can press or sweep it to read the message. You have to open the lock screen, press on the message app to read the message.

#6) Miss the lock screen swipe shortcuts page. If they didn't want to have the swipe screen, at least give us the ability to choose some shortcuts across the bottom of the screen besides phone & camera; like messages.

#7) Lost the ability to use a "4G on/off" app anymore. Somehow I figured out how to add their version: "data usage" & it goes to the "Data Usage" page but I have to use "Mobile data" >"Standard data" to turn on 4G. I usually need the 4G right away, but I wind up fumbling with the phone just to get it turned on. I use it to look at Gmaps, etc.

#8) Finding the “widgets” through me for a loop. I liked it better when you pressed apps, you also got the widgets at the same time.

#9) Is it just me or has anyone else noticed the keyboard is a little flaky? It seems like when I want one character, I get another. I've even seen a letter pop up that isn't even close to the one I wanted.

I am paranoid about syncing my contacts to my Google account, so I export a copy to my SD card. I put it in a special file on my laptop for an emergency. I've problems in the past with the sync. It doesn't want to add new contacts to Google Contacts & Google Contacts "erases" any changed contact information on the phone. I created a group called “update” & go to my Google account, & manually update/add contacts. If anyone knows a better way to do this, I'd like to know.

I don't use a lot of the apps mentioned here but all of the apps that I've downloaded work.

I don't use the phone alarm, I use a third party alarm app (Alarm Clock Xtreme Free - which I recommend).

I quit using the Facebook app, when they insisted on adding their Message app. Now, I use the internet to read it.

I haven't had any problems with using Firefox or my email(Gmail).

Occasionally, I get “TouchWiz not working” but it doesn't seem to affect anything. When I listen to music, I'll get a message “doesn't support format” & stops. I press the play again, & it starts playing.

Some quick things I discovered about the update is:

#1) the ability to customize the Notification panel. The “all apps” display has a pencil that lets you change the apps around.

#2) The Multi-screen function. Go to Settings>My Device>Display & turn on multi-screen. When you press & hold the “back” key, a side bar appears with “Email, Gallery, Internet, Messaging, Gmail, Maps, & YouTube”. I played with it & it does work.

#3) Press the “home” key & all the applications you worked on are right there. You can pick up where you started without going through the app.

I could be wrong but I suspect that they are trying to get your phone to behave like a tablet. Option #3 is on my tablet & I love it.

Bottom line, they need to fix any software that is causing hardware problems & some of the functions need to be streamlined (please don't add any more bloatware!).

Johnson, about the apps that disappeared. Is the icon not displaying but the app name is still there? There is a system app whose data/cache has to be cleared. Unfortunately, you have to put all of your apps back on your screen. I don't remember which system app it is, but do a search & it should show up.

As to whether I like the update or not, I'm very upset at the severe damage it has caused across the board; they should have taken more time, more thought, programming & testing before releasing the upgrade.

Loved kit Kay, hate lollipop so much after 1 month of using it, trying to cope with useless operating system now. No more Samsung or android devices for us. Now that it has a mind of its own, and is a more controlled closed operating system.
Ruined a decent operating system with childish junk messaging system. From. BBerry to iPhone to android and back to iPhone. Good Lord Google you really messed this up real bad!!
Soon all employees Will be switching back to iPhones, costs us money, but need something that works flawlessly. Customers are important,
Dead battery even if able to change is still useless if it dies so soon. notifications, phone calls emails most important. Texting. More for fun and
For kids Tweens. And teens. Hence you chose a great name. lollipop sucks.
I think we should sue you for lost business and wasted money. you have changed a working platform to a piece of worthless garbage.

I hate this lollipop update. I even called Samsung to find out if there was any way possible to uninstall this update from my phone and go back to my previous OS system. One person told me no and the supervisor told me yes but he could not tell me because it would void my warranty. My Yahoo mail will not load. Certain apps totally disappeared. The layout sucks. I hate it, hate it, hate it. How about test this crap first before you release it to the customers. The main reason I use my phone for is sending and receiving emails with word documents attached and thanks to this piece of crap OS, I can't do so. What's the point of having a phone that you can't use for what you please to use it for. Give us back Kit Kat and I will be happy. Lollipop 5.0 is horrible and trash!!!!

This update killed android for me. So many bugs. Apps not working, ringtone not working, email not working, I can't even catalog all the stuff that is messed up. What were they thinking? Iphone, here I come.

Lollipop is a nightmare on my S4. I've already disabled nearly all of the built-in apps and still the battery drains faster and the phone is getting slower as time goes by, so much that it needs to be restarted to properly work again. I'm planning on buying the next iPhone, though I might not be patient enough and go for the 6 Plus very soon...

Glad to see that I am not alone in this nightmare. My phone is slower, battery overheats, trying to place a call takes forever. I showed a co-worker how the screen would turn black when trying to open an app. I am pissed that I will need to do a factory reset.

I have two AT&T S4 phones and since ATT forced upgrade(?), both self adjust the volume down to lowest setting. I thought that since we used them for 18 months without problem I might not be told we were the idiots. Wrong. ATT will not acknowledge the problem. Says we hit the down volume button. Even though they self adjust while laying on the desk. Fortunately this only happens with incoming calls. Wait, THAT IS WHEN WE NEED A RINGTONE. Phones now worthless. ATT offered to sell us new ones. Infuriating.

If any single event brings me into the Apple camp it will be this release!!! Poor WI-FI, poor battery life, and I can't get my $#@! phone to ring. Loved my Xperia Z before this disaster.

Maggie:
Posted: 2015-06-10 @ 1:33pm PT
I can't answer incoming calls 50 percent of the time. I can hear the phone ringing, but there is no indication of the call on the screen. Nothing to press . . . There is not even an indication of the missed call after.

Luckily, some people leave voicemails or send messages, otherwise I would have no idea who called. This is quite a blocking bug. It started happening after the upgrade. I'm currently investigating how to downgrade.

The update is crap. Systematically it runs a little better only if you have a high-end phone, otherwise it just eats up too many resources for the little guys. Maybe I am alone in this thought, but what about making all cosmetic changes optional or at the very least customizable? Not to mention apps crash all the time, and the only support I can seem to find after much searching is for me to do a factory reset. I deeply regret upgrading.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and after the Lollipop 5.0 update the keyboard is now very slow. I want the notification bar back on the lock screen and I want the old pinch to zoom back. If I could roll back to KitKat I would.

I have an LG G2 and the apps do not work properly anymore. You have to clear the task manager to get them working. The battery life is now terrible. I used to get a whole day's usage. Now, after 3 hours, I have drained from 100% to 15% with the same usage. Google needs to improve Lollipop.

Hi.. I'm using Samsung Note 4 and my phone has recently updated to Lollipop. Here's the problems encountered:

a. Battery easily drained
b. When you reply to SMS from notification, it shows "unsend message"
c. When opening the gallery, it takes more than 5 seconds to open
d. still encountering WiFi problem

I should have read this page before I mistakenly installed LollyDrop on my phone. It has rendered my Note 4 essentially useless when trying to use Twitter. Everything, and I mean everything runs more slowly and i can watch the battery drain before my eyes. The persons responsible for Lollipop should be beaten.

Totally Disappointed:
Posted: 2015-06-04 @ 8:49am PT
Horrible, horrible experience... hardly anything works, wifi and 4G keep dropping, getting all kinds of aw snaps, errors, battery drains even faster and charging goes very, very slow, so I have to keep it plugged in, and it gets very hot when uplugged and off or screen off. I'm sure there's probably more wrong with things I don't normally use, like some NFL app that I don't use that continually updates and I can't figure out how to get rid of. Today woke up to my multiple home screen icon pages replaced to huge icons and not the ones I normally use and could find things with my eyes closed. Totally different and I can't find anything, takes forever... I didn't even get a choice, it just upgraded to Lollipop while I was driving using 4G data instead of wifi. Updates kept failing before that, wish this one had. There should have been a revert button included!

I'd fire whoever did this and rolled out a substandard product, or maybe they did it hoping we'd all just go out and buy a new phone, but I can't afford that and wouldn't if I could. We should have some recourse if they want to hold US to ridiculous contracts.

Stop griping! They won't care until they see 1000s and 1000s of people who have figured out how to make them pay for their mistakes. First by telling Verizon that this is not the same phone you signed a contract for. Describe what your phone could do at purchase and now several of those functions are gone. Taken away by Samsung, Google, Verizon... doesn't matter. Give them the phone and tell them to make the phone perform the same way it did just before you signed the contract. They can't. You have them. That's breach and the frustration is emotional distress.

Forget about talking about what it doesn't do and go do a factory reset, yank the SD card. And go fight for your phone and the right to say no! You see, we live in a time where we have become frogs slowly boiling in water and not caring. Not me. I'm not paying my bill. I am getting satisfaction. Enough!!!

I posted on here before about my LG G2 that I loved, that got attacked by Lollipop & I am totally OUTRAGED by this mandatory 'update'.

What I loved about my phone is long gone, especially the cool AccuWeather.

I just wanted to let the people know that it's not your fault for accepting the update. I talked to Verizon & Best Buy to get Kit Kat back and Lollipop OFF! Verizon told me that if I didn't accept the update (had no idea it was going to totally change my phone) -- it would be a MANDATORY update on its own, wow.

I read about someone just getting a refurbished phone of the same kind with the original format, but it will end up ruining that too.

Also, it can never be taken off and Kit Kat can never be put back on, hmmmm really?? This was over a month ago & I still can't believe this \×+#!

I really think that there needs to be something done --SOON!!

They have the power to make it go back to what it was. It should be illegal to ruin someone's property!!!

My LG G3 had issues. I think the video speaks for itself.
I hope the we can post it. Because this is how bad it became.

Google needs a class action suit brought on by customers and corporations alike, including the companies that sell the devices. I bet that would put a dent in their pockets.

I am out of gas and unable to enjoy the use of my phone. We have a son with a rare metabolic disease. It is imperative we having a working device.

I have video but I can't post the html. Just search in YouTube you find it under "Lollipop Death LG G3".

I hope the phone is fixed when I get it back, otherwise I will sue. Even low income customers have rights.

My main problem is that my headset plugin is rendered useless. I use it for listening to music while walking and also for phone calls quite often. Also, the groups tab was removed from my contacts list. This update needed more work before releasing it to the public. So far your update gets only one star.

Absolutely HATE the new Android Lollipop update. Installed it on my LG phone. Battery drains way too fast, the new theme is awful. The keyboard no longer has 2 punctuation keys, and worst of all, it randomly switches the sound setting on and off of "do not disturb" no matter how many times I make sure the settings are off.

John:

The colors are like being in kindergarten. From what I can determine, you're stuck with them--no way to change. A bit disturbing to look at them. They are a nausea-inducing mix.

Does not provide access in as many ways as prior Droid OS. That took a while to figure out.

Overall, I don't see any advantages. Some geek(s) sitting in a moldy back room dreamed up this mess.

What the hell doesn't Google understand? There is an old adage: If it works don't fix it.

We are not a society of consumers that absolutely have to have something new all the time. I think everyone reading this will agree: the prior version of the Android platform worked just fine.

Another thing: If I ran Google, I would make damn sure that before I launched any new operating system, I would test the hell out of it, on every device in the market, under every condition, with every popular app, every widget, everything, over and over, to make sure that when I released it to the public, it would work flawlessly.

That is taking responsibility for the products you make and sell. Somehow manufacturers in the virtual world don't seem to understand that concept. Can you imagine, for example, Dell computer putting a computer on the market for sale that really doesn't work yet, but they sell it anyway with the promise to fix whatever isn't working, eventually?

The problem with Lollipop is once installed, you can't downgrade to a prior OS. I have confirmed this with Samsung.

So Google sells this defective product to phone manufacturers, who in turn sell it to us. Why? Because they get paid to.

Personally I find what Google did and is doing unconscionable. They introduced Lollipop last year, and slowly introduce it into the market. Why gradually? So they could use consumers as guinea pigs to find out what doesn't work, to develop "fixes" around their problems, at great distress to the consumer, before they declare the product "bug free."

If you made a product, would you expect your customers to be your test subjects and let them discover all the problems at their expense, so you could fix your product? I am sure the answer is no -- unless you are a sociopath or adopt the practices of some Asian manufacturers.

You would do the right thing. You would test your product, and where advisable, even have an independent testing agency test your product. You would work out all the bugs, and only when you knew your product was perfect, would you release it for public consumption.

The problem is, that costs money. How does Google get around that expense? By using consumers as free test subjects.

P.S. Those who post comments about Lollipop here are not fruits and nuts. CNET reports, as of today, 5/26/15, 90.99% of users give Lollipop a one (1) star out of possible five.

My advice? If what you have is working, don't fix it. With anything, newer is not always better. What is best, is if whatever your electronic device, or otherwise, is doing what you need it to do, leave it alone. Don't upgrade. Don't fall for the cultural concept that new is better. It often isn't: from cars, to spouses, to operating systems. If that which you have works, be grateful for that, keep it, and go on with your life. Life is way too short to be mired in regret.

For those of you who haven't installed Lollipop -- don't install. Lollipop has nearly rendered my HTC M7 useless. Internet freezes, Gmail app is lousy and Lollipop only allows earlier versions of any app to be downloaded. Trying to find someone to root my phone so I can revert to KitKat. If I can't find that service, I will be buying an iPhone since Google Android is no longer open source.

800 bucks for my phone only to have lollipop upgrade ruin it. Thanks Google. I think Android's time is up in my house and I hate iPhones so I'm going back for an old flip phone.

This is ridiculous. I loved my phone out of the box but then when the update forced itself through, my nightmare began. Can't make or receive calls or texts. Constant freezing every time I try to do anything. Can't open apps or watch videos or play music. It's nothing more than a paper weight now. Tried the cache partition clear and a few other things including factory restore 3 times. US cellular even tried to fix it. No such luck.

I'm done with Android. Sick of paying so much money for phones that do not function. So that's my personal opinion.

Hate the new colors, multiple taps to delete texts, the new digital clock, the difficult-to-see white keyboard, the ringtones turning themselves down, and . . . actually just scroll down and read Gregg M. Handsets are of high quality these days and as such, they are very expensive. It's extremely unfair and unjust for someone who has just spent almost half a grand on new high spec phone, to suddenly find it has been ruined by these buggy updates often rendering the handset extremely problematic. And moreso unfair that no one receives any form of compensation from Google in relation to a half bricked expensive device. If you advertise an update as the best yet and roll out the update and this update renders expensive phones almost useless then Google, you should be compensating each individual for your mistakes.

Gillian Parker:

My phone did a forced update. Ever since, everything has been slow. The only app that works well is Pintrest. I can't get Pandora to start up properly or quickly and once it does, there's major lag time, it's like a broken record. Chrome freezes and won't load searches so I can't do anything on the internet. Texting is disrupted because of the new swipe system... Doubling words, not writing at all, or changing words when i don't want it to. Can't update their apps so they can function with lollipop because the damn pay store is frozen -- won't load at all. And don't get me started on the battery. This phone is maybe 5 months old, the battery shouldn't diminish in a few hours. Why the hell do companies toss in newsreel before seriously making sure there won't be such horrid problems? Absolutely ridiculous.

I could list for you 40+ things that are ALL worse on my Samsung Galaxy S4 (Verizon) as a result of the May 2015 Lollipop update. In every use of my phone.

Email: Takes 10 times longer to load email (30 seconds, used to be 3 seconds), every time!, touching emails while writing replies makes the cursor jump to the BOTTOM of the very bottom, oldest email in the thread! Many other email problems.

Contacts: "Favorites" are now a bunch of squares with stupid silhouettes of human heads occupying almost the entire square, but their NAMES are now TINY, like 1/16" high font)

Entering new contacts or editing existing ones: touching anywhere in the First/Middle/Last Name boxes makes the cursor jump to the FAR RIGHT (nearly always). Also, the full Contacts list previously showed next to each name 2 symbols (for me): one for Google Contacts, one for In-Phone Contacts, meaning I could see that each contact was saved in both places (my own habit), and I could quickly see on this long list which ones didn't show both symbols (so I could then save to the appropriate place and have each contact double-saved). Those 2 symbols next to each name on my Contacts list are now GONE. NOW, I have to touch on EACH of my 900+ contacts to see whether I've saved them in both locations (to see those 2 symbols, or possibly not 2 but only one)-- STUPID!

Adding Contacts: NOW, there is a "+" sign at the bottom right-hand corner of my Contacts list, meaning that if I go to touch any of these letters--"U-V-W-X-Y-Z"-- I cannot miss INSTEAD touching the huge "+" sign, so it takes me to starting on a new contact when that is NOT my intention. Hey, Google, do you realize that we place these phones in CASES that limit our smallest finger's room even further than you have limited it??? -- Put the "+" sign BACK near the top of the Contacts list screen where it was BEFORE.

More in Contacts: previously, when going in to modify an existing contact, opening it up further resulted in seeing it from its very first word, while initially looking at it (not fully opened) showed it at the very last word. Which was helpful to me-- to have this option when going in to view lengthy contact info I'd written for each contact. But NOW, either way results in ONLY seeing the very last word on each line for a contact. And, again, touching within each line, such as "First Name," almost always makes the cursor jump to the END (the FAR RIGHT). WHY???

Unlocking my phone: I no longer see a banner showing missed calls nor the other banner showing voicemails. And, notifications no longer arrive for most new emails received, texts received, nor calls received, ONLY SOMETIMES are there notifications, but most times, I receive emails/calls/texts WITHOUT notifications. Seriously??

On phone calls: if someone calls while I'm already on a call, it is now harder to find the SMALLER symbol for switching between callers-- STUPID!!

Moreover, NOW Google has lowered where the caller's name shows in large letters while we're speaking (WHY lower it???) so that they could RAISE the running time of the call to where that ever-changing running time figure is now immediately below the time of day in the top corner of the screen-- placing numbers immediately below numbers! WHY? It is just more confusing. NOT BALANCED- LOOKING, either. Just another STUPID, IMPROPER CHANGE made only for the sake of change. Hey, Google, did you ever wonder why in ALL previous updates to this phone, no one ever thought to mess around with the graphics and interfaces, but then you had to do so ONLY FOR THE SAKE OF CHANGE, making all of them DUMBER?

Again, I could name at least 40 problems (that I have noticed SO FAR)-- 40 things made worse, BUT NOT ONE THING MADE BETTER by Lollipop. I didn't needed the childish and feminine colors, either, but that's the least of my problems. I believe the Google people who worked on this wanted to have some fun for themselves, and do "cute" things, ALSO wanted to make changes ONLY FOR CHANGE'S SAKE. But all the changes are for the worse.

Security: Oh, here's a beauty: they have added a new security feature: the phone WIPES ITSELF CLEAN OF EVERYTHING if someone tries to unlock it 10 times. AND, THEY HAVE ALREADY CHECKED THE BOX FOR THAT, so users don't even know that they have-- and have ACTIVATED--this scary feature, which will no doubt screw things up for some people (elderly, people who try to unlock while driving and continually miss the correct unlock dots on the screen, etc.). Jesus, if you're going to add such a security feature, fine, BUT DON'T ALSO CHECK ITS BOX TO ACTIVATE IT IN ADVANCE.

PLEASE, Google, send us the PREVIOUS KITKAT or whatever other update! PLEASE! You have ruined my phone. I hate using it now, everything on it is STUPIDER and WORSE.

I will never buy a Samsung phone again if this crappy Lollipop is on it. Guaranteed. I have already told Verizon so. I'll get an I-phone or LG or Motorola phone instead, if necessary.

Thanks for f__ing up my phone entirely, Google.

Again, if you make every single fix to Lollipop that people can name now-- this would NOT be the way to fix this. You will MISS some things. JUST GIVE US BACK THE PRIOR UPDATE. DON'T TRY TO PUT LIPSTICK ON THIS PIG.

For me, things were 100% perfect before this update, and prior to the previous one, too. I HAD LOVED MY PHONE. But this Lollipop is 100% worse, with NO visible improvements. Hey, I USE A PHONE only TO TALK, EMAIL, TEXT, AND WEB SURF . . . NOT TO CONNECT WITH MY DAMN TV SET. Most of us DON'T NEED ANY UPDATING OR NEW FEATURES ON OUR S-4'S!

Finally, USE some COMMON SENSE, GOOGLE. These phones are bought by most of us to use for JUST TWO YEARS. Until we acquire the next replacement phone that our plans entitle us to IN ONLY 2 YEARS. IF WE WERE PLEASED WITH THE PHONE WHEN WE BOUGHT IT, WHY do you think you need to screw around with it AND MAKE IT INTO A DIFFERENT PHONE when you know we're going to replace it in just 2 years??? It is common sense that we'll be pleased for two years with what we chose, apart from any true bugs that need fixing. You have RUINED what I chose because you sought to revamp these phones entirely (for YOUR own pleasure), AND YOU DARNED WELL SHOULD HAVE WARNED US FIRST.

Here is a fix that you have NEVER made to this phone: whenever I use Google voice-to-text to write "Mom," which I do often to communicate to family members about my ailing mother, you ALWAYS spell it as "mom." Wrong. In fact, many sentences in emails and texts, using Google voice-to-text, are begun with lower-case letters. Why did you never fix THIS stuff??

There are so many issues with this. I have an HTC one M8, where do I begin? First and foremost, the screen just randomly turns on with no rhyme or reason. No update comes up, I don't have the magnetic case on so I doubt is a magnetic field issue. I can turn it off or it'll time out and turn off on its own but it'll keep doing it over and over.

Next is Messages. Just the simple default texting app has so many bugs. First, when I open into a thread and start typing the keyboard disappears and the entire message I was typing has been erased. It also sometimes exits out of the thread onto the main area with all threads showing. This also deletes any progress I had on typing a message. Since this issue has started to occur, it has become an issue just to get a single sentence typed let alone a full message.

Next in the timeline of issues over the past few days would be web browser issues. I did not think I had this issue until I was reading an article on my phone about the issue. Ironically enough, at that moment, my phone kept reloading and refreshing the webpage unprompted.

Another issue that has started to occur as of last night would be while I'm playing music from the music app (NOT a third party app such as Spotify or Pandora). Mainly this happens while I'm in the car. Essentially, the music plays normally and then every once in a while it just stops unexpectedly and my phone decides it needs to go into car mode every once in a while when this happens. I have never used car mode in my time on this phone and it just started to pop up now. Also, this happened while also using the Google Maps App. It would tell me a direction and every once in a while the music would stop playing.

I decided to take it upon myself to see how much RAM was being used overall and I have found that almost all available RAM is being used for something on my phone. The processor on the HTC One M8 was meant to be top notch so this would not be an issue. I can only assume that this is cause by another amazing bug created by Lollipop.

Next on the list of countless issues would be the one I have been facing the longest but has not bothered me as much due to easy workarounds most of the time. THIS IS NOT TO SAY IT ISN'T A HUGE ISSUE. The phone does not seem to always connect to the wifi which again hasn't been an issue as much since I have had 4G LTE to use since I have unlimited data. Although, if possible I would love for this issue to be fixed.

At the moment, these are the main issues I tend to be having. From what I have found by looking up issue reports from others, this seems to be a trend after updating to 5.0 Lollipop. I never root my phone and decided it wasn't necessary but until these issues are fixed I will be doing that as well as actually going backwards to KitKat because I had no issues while running that update. I would also like to say that if these issues are not fixed by the time of my next "upgrade" I will have to switch to the iPhone which will be the bane of my existence. I thoroughly hate Apple products and vowed to never touch them but with so many issues from this "update" I think I have no other choice but to use the simplified, non-customizable, boring and overall rudimentary iOS. Again as I said, I hate Apple products because of how childish and stupid they make me feel. Although, they do not seem to ever have any issues with their devices because they never change anything. Somehow, I guess by doing nothing Apple has actually done something right with their iOS.

I am pissed mad now. Ruined a perfectly good experience. No notifications of call. Emails, even rings too low, when someone phones. If listening to tunein and an email comes in, the music stops and does not resume. That's about the 4 main reasons I use my phone and they all worked fine before. Now they all are messed up. Also yesterday received no emails. And then they all came in in bulk 5 hours later. Even though settings are at check every minute. Battery life now is horrible. May give up on androids now. (HTC desire 816) My writing pad for msgs etc just won't appear sometimes and I have to restart the phone constantly to get it back, it's very slow and jittery and the rest of little annoying things it's doing. They better fix as android is better then this cr@p.

I will never click on any update offered in the future without looking it up first. My once well-loved S4 is now behaving poorly, with performance compromised . . . and apps I always used pre-update, suddenly crash, or refuse to start after this update.

I can only hope Lollipop finds a fix ASAP; my confidence is shaken. I am very disappointed with Verizon for sending out this destructive update -- for what I pay, they should check things out.

I echo everyone's comments. The removal of the settings button at the bottom left of my S4 was annoying enough. Then I find they have moved items in the settings to different locations. I don't have time to relearn where settings are in this update. The most recent problem is a big one...I use my phone as my alarm. Guess who was late for work today? The sound volume of the tones in the alarm is virtually nonexistent even on the highest volume setting. Unreal!!! Trying to figure out how to get out of my 2 year contract early or make Verizon give me a refurbished S4 that has not received the lollipop update.

I'm in Nikhil Chopra's boat: my apps keep crashing! I also seem to have cell phone service and wifi connectivity issues. This "upgrade" is cr@p and is driving me up the flipping wall. I hate my brand new Note 4 since updating to lollipop. The beautiful look of my phone is gone. This plain gray sh#t has to go. Should just call it plain Jane now. It's so ugly. Wth. Was an Android diehard but now I'm going to get an iPhone 6. Fix it. Do they even read this or even care?

This so called "update" is more like a "up yours" str8 from the office of google! Everything has changed! Before the update my phone was super fast. Now it is sluggish, I mean slow, the battery life is crap, the apps have been affected and I am completely disappointed with what has happened with the Android operating system. all I can say is I wish I would have bought an iPhone last week instead of an Android. A prime example of an issue is not being able to erase some misspellings on this email because the keyboard doesn't work correctly! all in all it is a real drag and google has screwed up!

I just updated the damn thing today. Why does my S4 now look like a child's toy?

This is the ugliest design I've ever seen. Why the hell would a company sabotage its customers' experience like this? I loved my S4. It was glossy. Now the graphics are flat, and look like something from 20 years ago.

My battery is burning fast as we speak and I'm using my laptop. WTH?

Those greedy scammers put this piece of crap out there KNOWING all this just so they could get some visibility at OUR expense!!!!

They should be fixing all of our damn phones and compensating us for this rip off!

Lollipop update disabled my yahoo mail. If I want to see anything from that account I am now forced to view it through google mail. I also do not like the new white background, smaller print, and white bar notifications (instead of symbols) that were forced on me and that I can't change. Kit Kat would look like a major step up now.

Agree with Christie and Jacqueline....The fact that they REMOVED settings and customization is so unbelievably frustrating! Also, for whatever reason, it got rid of notifications on my lock screen, so when the phone would vibrate or make noise, I had to unlock my phone and look through it to see what it was that the phone was alerting me to. I had to search all over to just get into the phone settings (can't just press that handy button on the lower left anymore), and after searching through them, was FINALLY able to turn notifications back on for the lock screen. I don't understand why they needed to make it more complicated to get to the setting you want, or why they make the language more complicated than it needs to be. I have to go into the phone settings, sound and notification, and then set it to either "show all content" or "hide sensitive material"......WHY???

Christie:

I have a Galaxy Note 3 and all the unique settings and features that I love about my phone have been removed. The settings are a third the size. I lost most of my customisation ability. That's what I loved about my phone! So frustrating. I hate the new lock screen format forced on me. I want my settings back!

Upgraded to Lollipop on my Tab S tablet. It will no longer work with Chromecast which is a Google device. What chance does anyone have if they can't get it right for their own devices. The Chromecast will no longer work with any Tab S media player. It works for a couple of minutes then crashes the tablet and comes with a message to restart my Chromecast.

Was also unaware after hours of searching there is no way to revert back to KitKat. Sick of all these tech companies. Customer service is now customer slavery. Who is responsible for fixing this? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which I loved. Notice I say, "loved". Like others have remarked, I have battery drain at times (if that's what you want to call it). The problem(s) started immediately (and I DO mean IMMEDIATELY) upon installing the "lollipop update". My battery started going from upper 90% battery life to the phone shutting off and entering a battery killing restart looping of the phone. In other words, my phone would just shut itself down, but then, power itself right back on again. Once it enters this cycle, if I don't plug it in immediately, it will drain the battery to 0% in a matter of 35-45 seconds. If I'm lucky enough to get the battery out of the phone fast enough, I'm able to save some of the battery life. I can then power my phone back on and use it again. However, nothing prevents this from happening again, no matter what I do. I've even tried restoring my phone to factory settings and starting over, as if I was pulling it out of the box like I did when I got it originally. After restoring my phone to "Factory Settings", it took less than 4 minutes for my phone to shut off (by itself...while showing 96% battery life) and enter the same restart looping. Frustrating doesn't even begin to describe what I feel about this. I want to know who is responsible, or at the very least, who can fix it?

My Sony Xperia Z1 compact has started making multiple random calls whenever it is switched on. People are messaging me all the time; my voice mail is full with 49 messages; and call records show 119 random calls in two hours.

Unhappy. Unable to reject/opt-out of upgrade. I liked the Samsung S4 having black screen. Lollipop now uses white screens behind all text, causing significantly faster battery degrade and eye strain. I find I have to rest my eyes quite a bit more after reading texts and emails - one main purpose of a smart phone! As an adult and professional, I find the colors and schemes quite cartoonish and irritating, frankly. Also, upgrades to phone and other basics moved quite a few basic buttons. Still can't figure out how to access some previously-routinely accessed settings. Upgrade seems geared for children/teen novelty, and not a handheld tool. Now looking to join the rest of my family who have Apple products.

Leo Boon:

On 4 May 2015, I upgraded my Samsung Galaxy Tab S to Lollipop from Kit Kat. And there was no option to reject the upgrade since there is only one button "Install" and no opt-out or "X" button. The upgrade process took the whole night, with repeated self activated re-installs. After update was complete, another nightmare arose: start up took a long while, and once I got to the desktop and into the Setting environment for some moments, the Tablet shuts itself down (I noted the battery showed 67% at the startup and drained to 07%) in those short 4 minutes of the tablet's operation. Every attempt to start the tablet led to the same frustration. It took more than 24 hrs to recharge to 100%. I resorted to hard reset (using ON + Vol Up+Home buttons). But the tablet died now, after I completed the hard reset where I deleted all files and apps.

Now, can any one advise me how to revive this Galaxy Tab S? I want to get it started, no matter how. thanks. Leo.

It has broken my wifi completely!! Beware of this upgrade. After upgrading the wi fi would only connect once every time after you take the battery out and put it back in, and only for a few minutes. I quickly got fed up with it as nothing would fix it and decided to go back to a stock kitkat, only to discover that the upgrade has left the wifi in this state whatever I do. It is completely useless if I change the operating system, delete cache, hard re-set. I give up now..... so dissapointed.....

DO NOT LIKE!!! I almost feel like my phone is nothing more than a child's play toy now. Don't care for the color or the layout whatsoever. At least give us the option to change them! Battery life sucks now and my phone seems to make its own decision when I should have my "do not disturb" on or off. So needless to say, I miss phone calls and don't get notified on my messages. Honestly think this update is a waste of time!

I agree with Melody. There should be a class-action lawsuit or force them to remove Lollipop and restore to what people had. I sure wasn't complaining with what I had (a great functioning phone).

It's not fair to be forced to have your own personal property attacked by an "update" that ruins a perfectly functioning phone or tablet. Time for them to do something.

Couldn't agree more with the many negative comments! I anxiously awaited the Lollipop update unaware of the issues. It has turned my $500.00 phone into an all but useless paperweight. If anyone is interested in signing up for a class action lawsuit let me know.

My phone freezes multiple times daily, no screen rotation, camera all but inoperable, apps don't open and if they d it freezes the phone, you can't close programs with a swipe and the stupid little X you are now supposed to use to close programs does not appear because when you hit the little square it freezes the phone. You can longer leave google windows open to a page because it closes the program. This so called update is a giant step back in technology, a huge time sucker, and breach of service by LG and the phone carriers for allowing it to go on this long.

I really regret upgrading my platform to lollipop, I have an xperia z1 and I face battery draining issues, system is hanging even though there's still more than 400 mb of RAM, sometimes apps crash, and when playing a game the device is overheating insanely and I believe that's why the battery drains faster. Two major issues for me. The app decides when I've watched a video long enough or read an article long enough and kicks me out. (Um, no.) The phone freezes and then takes 10 minutes to reboot itself. In the meantime, well, not efficient use of time, especially when you are on a time crunch.

I got Lollipop update on my Galaxy S4 and the things I don't like:

1. They pull out Data ON OFF features from all apps and from Mobile Data Toggle from quick menu. So within 48 hours I consumed my 400 MB data. As I need to go through five steps to turn off data, obviously you can forget it.

2. Home button allocated to Launcher. How often do people keep changing their Launchers. The Home button should be allocated to bring the screen back to the Home Screen. It doesn't anymore.

I went to Samsung service center and told them I needed to revert it to Kitkat and it was done in 30 minutes. Back to normal. Now.

This update ruined my phone.. I have the LG G3 and absolutely loved it up until Lollipop 5.0. It was a wonderful phone, and now I can't even use my phone for music in the car because Pandora and YouTube lag and cut out of sound every 4 seconds, even if I have a strong 4G signal and the video or song is fully loaded. Texting on my default app became nearly impossible because of the lag-to those of you having the same problem, I recommend downloading Google's new Messenger app that's designed for Lollipop and has worked better with it for me than my default or even Textra (sad face). I'm anxiously waiting for bug fixes from Android or even app updates to apps in the play store to accommodate Lollipop so the lag will end! All around disappointing upgrade, and it's not even aesthetically pleasing.. Downgrading to my previous software would feel like an upgrade!

This is the worst update ever, period. A 5 year old could make a better update than this. My LG G2 was an awesome phone. Now I want to smash it on some hard concrete floor. My phone is ruined. You can't text, constantly dropping wifi and data, the battery lasts about a quarter as long as it used to. Buttons are changed, useful features are changed. Oh, let's not forget that my phone randomly goes to 200 degrees just out of the blue. I hate this. Whoever came up with this should be fired, no, better yet arrested for impersonating a human being. Samsung Galaxy S4: The pre installed app "My Files" used to move a file quickly to another folder on the same file system (without actually accessing the data of the file). Now it seems to pull the entire file through the processor as if it is copied or moved to a different filesystem. With large files (e.g. movies) this takes a lot of time.

I am extremely disappointed after upgrading. I have taken several videos with my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone, since the "upgrade".

I tried to transfer my pictures and videos, onto my computer, and only the photo's transferred, computer did not even show that I had videos on my phone.

I rebooted the phone. Rebooted the computer. Nothing.

I have never had an issue. So, ok, I thought Google+ would come to my rescue, via back-up.
Wrong.......although I will say, it did pick up 3 videos, but not all of my videos.
It shows that upload is complete. *sigh*

My LG G2 with 4.4 was awesome. After more than a year it was still the best device I ever owned. After 5.0, I want to throw it out the window. My opinion is that they do this intentionally to sell more phones now that the quality is so high. I would have stayed on the G2 until something amazing pulled me away. Planned obsolescence doesn't work anymore so let's force a buggy upgrade to get the stock price moving again.

Besides being completely hideous, Silent Mode is now Do Not Disturb mode and apparently that means I should not have Visual notifications as well. Like maybe a flashing LED to let me know I have a text message. Before I could turn off all sounds and pop ups on my G3 and rely on my LED for missed calls, voice mails, text messages. Now, I might as well have an iPhone since the LED is useless.

I'm ready to switch. My current contract is almost up and this new update is unbearable. Yes, there are several issues with draining battery and apps that are screwed up... but the worst thing is the texting. Probably the single most basic part of a cell phone fails constantly. I can't send two texts in a row without crashing. Furthermore, when I'm trying to type a message, it just stops and then catches up a minute or two later. For no reason. Like it's out of RAM or something and just doesn't have the resources to type a text. They'd better fix this quick.

The 5.0.2 Lollipop update to my Nexus 7 2013 2nd gen. has frozen my tablet on the white Google.

'Wipe Cache Partition' tried several times did not help as there seems to be many [maybe around 50] E: failed to mount / cache  (Invalid argument) type of lines that are all there the next time I tried to clear the Cache Partition, so I have no idea if the stuff is in fact clearing or not.

'Wipe Data/ Factory Reset' tried several times did not help. Same thing here, like a trusting dummy I failed to backup before this system update since I'd never had a problem before and stand to lose a lot since my last backup... but, I'm not sure if my tablet is formatting to a factory reset or not. Still frozen.

I've yet to find a forum that can help with this problem.
I'd been watching my notification bar indicate I have an OTA system update available for quite a while and before doing enough research I went ahead and downloaded which seemed to have completed fine albeit did see where some folks had been saying the download stopped without completing.

Then the restart to install went well and completed also and on its own began to restart again. I didn't think anything of it...until it froze at the white Google page and that was it. I tried what was in the last post and since February 14 and I cracked the case open and disconnected the battery hoping it would forget it has a problem... and it has not forgotten so far.

This Lollipop update seems to be ruining American's hardware. I've been without my Nexus 7 since the end of February and written an email to cl-fred@asus.com with no answer as yet. I'd really like to have my tablet back working as I don't have the money to buy another because then what, Google wastes the new one too?

My phone is completely screwed up now. I had to delete 15 apps that no longer work properly. Not to mention I can't update my apps because my Google (and Google Play services) don't work anymore. I get a pop-up nearly every 5 seconds telling me that my system isn't functioning properly. My phone freezes constantly and my keyboard will press the wrong button and sometimes stay onscreen after I close or switch to something else. I can barely text and people can't hear me on the other end when I get a call or try to call someone. I can't view links people share on FB or watch some videos and GIFs. Do I need to continue?

I was forced to upgrade my Nexus 7 tablet to 5.0. Sound volume decreased, battery life decreased, and the whole device was sluggish and jittery. They now forced 5.1 out, which is marginally better, but I would go back to 4.4 in a second if I could (without rooting). My device was much more functional then. Why doesn't Google just give us the choice to stay with what works and not upgrade? People bash Microsoft, but I have NEVER experienced such poor results when I've upgraded Windows -- and that includes Vista. This is a big black eye for Google.

I have a Nexus 4. It used to work fine then suddenly I found out that when making or receiving a call, there was absolutely no sound even if the connection was established. The only way to fix that was to reboot.

Then I realized that my phone just froze. It would not come out of sleep mode. It is still running because I have to do a long, very long, power keypress to get it restarted. Once, I noticed that it happened right smack in the middle of using GMAIL. That time it froze and rebooted instant later. So ever since then I have been weary of using gmail but I can't really say it was part of the problem, or just an unfortunate victim.

I found a recommendation on the web that suggested to reboot in recovery mode and clear/reformat the cache. I did that but it is too soon to know if that will help.

So far I have been unable to identify what triggers either the total freeze, nor the reboot nor the phone calls without sound.

I have the latest version of Android available for my phone, 5.0.1.

My biggest complaint is that my very favorite thing on the entire phone, was the live/transparent AccWeather on the top of the main screen. Tap the phone & clouds go from small to big. Then according to the weather, you see sun beams, orbs, shooting stars, snowflakes & rain- in action. I thought it was so neat & know that it was a very unique & custom thing LG did for the G2.
Now it's a very BORING, SMALL square with the weather that doesn't move around! It has a dumb DRAWING of the clouds, sun & moon-what?? The other half of the box of what it used to be is a generic white box with the time (right under the regular time). They had something really neat, now the stupid Lollipop wiped it out.

I loved my phone cuz the live weather dealee, it was fast, never froze -- EVER, 3 day battery life, now half day-battery drained, freezing, have to re-start & slower. Doesn't draft a comment on something I comment on Facebook anymore. I used to be able to type, go back to comments, then go back into what I started typing.

I am really, REALLY upset about this forced upgrade, I had no idea it wasn't just another update.

I loved my phone the way it was. If I wanted to change everything, I would have just bought a different phone! Give people a choice FIRST!!
I hope this is fixed a.s.a.p.

I just updated my Galaxy 5 to Lollipop and am VERY disappointed with it. I use to be able to mute my phone and have my alarm clock to over ride the mute and wake me up. I can't do that without having a priority list. Speaking of priority list, I had my brother to call me so I could check it out, his call didn't come through. BATTERY DRAINS WAY TOO QUICKLY

Really cheesed off with Lollipop. There's nothing to say about my Nexus 7 other than it is basically unusable.

As for my 6mo SGS5 it now has serious problems. Once it loses a mobile-data connection (e.g. in a dead-spot or underground) it will not reconnect data even once coverage is available again. Only solution (other than reboot) is to go into flight mode and out again.

Wi-fi is also flaky as hell, with notifications only being polled when I wake up the phone, so no flashing LED, meaning notifications can go unseen for HOURS.

And no I don't have "Smart Network Switching" on.

Oh and today I went from 100% to 72% in ONE HOUR. Effective hand warmer though.

Poor.

For a Moto G 2nd Gen user with Lollipop sofware I must say...

I can't answer or reject calls, open whatsapp notifications that appear when im using the phone on the top of the screen.

Baterry doesn't last for too much.

The "contacts" app keeps crashing over and over.

I suffered from low ringtones even after sorting out settings and turning up the volume so I hope this can help others if they have the same problem.

Moto G 2nd Gen had the same problem and it's running ok for now......

You are going to need to plug your phone into a computer and on AUTO PLAY click "OPEN FOLDER TO VIEW FILES".

1) Go to Media folder > Audio > Ringtones
2) Copy all ringtones and go back 3 tabs to the main storage page of your phone
3) Open Ringtones folder and paste your ringtones
4) Close the window, unplug your phone and cross your fingers it has solved your problem.

Worked for me so I hope this helps others.

Good luck

Android L is a disaster! As most have commented here. It's slow/sluggish, choppy, apps and ringtones are messed up. What on earth is wrong with screen rotation? It wants to rotate even with the device flat on the table!

How on earth has Android 5 managed to slow down a 2.1ghz quad core mobile with 2gig of Ram is beyond me. Animations between menus are inconsistent. Actually, menus are all inconsistent. It's not so much third party apps that are a mess, because that is down to the third party dev, it's the standard Android package that simply just doesn't work. Never thought I would ever say this but yep, going back to Windows Phone.

One of Android's worse updates ever!

Half my apps won't even open anymore. My Kaspersky security app won't open all. I get a spinning circle saying starting up constantly. It won't open at all which means I cant even remove it to re-install. I wouldn't mind if it was a free app, but it's a paid-for app.

My phone has become laggy. It's telling me my phone is almost full when I have a 64 gig mem card in it and all my pics, music and apps movable are on there!

I've only put lollipop 5.0 on it a few hrs ago and already I hate it.

Nexus 4 user here. Since the update, phone keeps crashing and rebooting by itself randomly. Camera app is super buggy - try taking photos, then only for the entire phone to crash and restart by itself, and then the photo I was taking earlier? Totally gone. Shows up on my Google+ photo backup as a broken image icon with the words "Media not found." I use my camera a lot and am very disappointed with the fact that now, my camera app is moody and unreliable and half the time doesn't work. Seriously I've been looking at Apple phones the past few weeks, thinking of going for an Iphone for the camera reliability and more beautiful photo colours. I used to be pretty proud of my Nexus 4. It could do anything an Iphone does. Now it cannot even take pictures. So disappointed. Actually I don't even know if I want the Iphone. I'm so tied into the whole Android network with my Gmail and stuff all integrated into it. Sigh. Just wish Google would improve the current update because it is just not good.

Oh, and video player apps now are moody as hell. I also had to uninstall BBC Media Player and Iplayer apps because Youtube app just won't play any videos for me unless there is no BBC Media Player app on my phone. Weird as hell but I've tried it all ways now - the problem really lies with the BBC app for some reason. It used to be fine BEFORE the recent update though. I'm so pissed at this new update. Hate it. Want to go back to the previous version.

My major problem is that most of my internet programs crash frequently...

Android 5.0.1, Nexus7 2013.

My request and suggestion is that we be given a way by ALL software vendors, to revert to the previous version if we give a short problem report to them and an open blog? And we accept a follow-up eMail, that if the down-rev fixed our problem, and then one when the vend0r thinks they have solved it.

This would allow us to not be up a creek, the vendor to be informed of the frequency of problems..., and others to see if they should update.

Screen brightness doesn't go low enough.

Not able to have custom ringtone or text tone for each contact.

Not being able to hide google search bars that are everywhere. Now I can just swipe my finger fine thank you to use google search.

Battery life sucks cell standby and cell idle use the most of the battery. Overnight not using the phone the battery life drops 4 to 6% with kitkat it was only 2%.

Battery saver mode on uses more battery life than when it's off.

On calls, people now have a hard time hearing me talk unless I move the phone up but then I can't hear them well so now I'm moving the phone up and down when talking to someone. Never had this issue with kitkat.

Skype quit working for Skype-to-Skype calls on wifi, and will only call Skype numbers. GPS/Google Maps consistently freezes or lags. Pain in the butt and I use it for work. Have missed many turns.

Android 5.0 Lollipop had totally messed up my Nexus 4. I can't send or receive text messages and if I do, it takes a few days. I'm not able to access some of my apps or even go into the Play store to get new apps. I can't even access my google settings app. Unable to update apps such as weather and news. Battery drains extremely fast and even my alarm doesn't work anymore. Thanks Android!

I have had the update on my nexus 4 for about two weeks. The system occasionally runs slower when background updates are being installed and I've had the occasional slowing of UI, but I have also seen a slight improvement in battery life. I also stopped using apps to try to regulate my phone about a month ago and saw an improvement then as well. This stuff does need to run and take up resources to do what it does. The only really issue I've experienced that is annoying is that my camera will look fine in the preview when I take pictures, but about half of them will be blurry when I go back to look at them. Also while writing this my keyboard decided to close it self several times, but that's a first. I guess overall, I don't have much to complain about. It's a new release, and its been about a month. I know they probably shouldn't have released it as early as they did, if you've ever programmed anything, you know if there are bugs, they take time to fix. The best is how much complaining I read before the release that google didn't release it, and now everyone wishes it hadn't been released.

I have a Nexus 5 with Android 5 but I really don't like Android 5. I am unable to access music while the phone is in lock mode. I have to unlock it first, then only am I able to change the track. No gallery option. No silent option.
Sorry to say but Lollipop sucks. KitKat 4.4 was best.

I had a good few days with Lollipop, and then things went bad. Now my battery will charge to about 70% and then tell me it has 5hrs still to charge. I have to reboot daily.

If I have Wifi on for a while, that seems to cause problems when charging. Mobile data seems to send the CPU through the roof.

I have seen my battery drop 30-40% in an hour, with the screen mostly off and just background data on. Battery Saver hasn't helped much either.

When using Maps for the first time since Lollipop upgrade, the location wouldn't lock on at all. I had to search for a nearby location and then the GPS locked on.

I hate the priority notifications - give me my silent mode back! I don't want my phone to vibrate on my desk but I still need to see my notifications when they come in.

It's made my Nexus4 quite unreliable, and I am seriously contemplating downgrading to KitKat.

Nexus 10 and wife's Nexus 7 are slow and we frequently get knocked off WiFi. This update ruined our tablets and I am mad n frustrated... Hope to see some bug fixes real soon or both tablets are no more than paper weights....

I'm having a few issues, nothing serious. My battery drain isn't an issue as it lasts a full day. I am on a call right now and on wifi with no data which bugs me, but I'm also using a TMobile Nexus 6 on Verizon so who knows if that makes any difference.

5.0 on my Nexus 5. While my phone rests after a few minutes, it cannot wake up again. I get a black screen with buttons at the bottom and alerts at the top. All I can access is the Settings. The only fix is to turn it off and on. At least it boots fast. I have wiped the phone and it still locks up. I just changed settings in Chrome to treat TABS and APPS as separate. Hope that helps.

Had similar unstable behaviour on Nexus 5. I turned down the 'treat tabs as apps' on Chrome and it now runs smoothly!!!

Viber has poor to no reception since my update. My daughter, who lives in the UK and doesn't have the update available, has no issues with Viber. Messenger and Skype don't work at all, huge problem when this is your only form of communication with your child. Battery drains within 4 hours. I go to bed with a full charge and wake up to a battery warning. All windows are closed, location and bluetooth are off, phone is asleep. I contacted Google and was told to reset and run in safe mode. Reset a problem that clearly hasn't been fixed? Safe mode is not an option, I lose communication with my daughter since all those applications will not function. Really, really disappointed, Google! My daughter is ready to ditch and move back to iPhone. My son already has by moving to Samsung, I was the last holdout...

I wish I could go back to Android 4.4 OS. Using Nexus 4:
1. Lollipop update eats my battery.
2. Did not like the Contacts merge into dialing screen. At least I should have a Contact link to view Contacts.
3. Camera is not working anymore.
4. I am using a phone, not a tablet. Guest user or adding any user is not desirable.

I have a Nexus 4 and have had to disable the GPS and the Gmail app. My battery drains from 100% to 28% just sitting on my bedside table while I am asleep.
I charged it this morning to 100% and it is telling me it will last four hours.

I'm about to trade it in for an iPhone..

My Nexus 7 (2012) was reduced to paperweight status after the OTA update to Lollipop. Laggy, low battery life and buggy, everything you need in an update....NOT.
Re-installed good old Kit Kat...problems gone.

@turtletech: Glad to hear you're not having issues with the update. The article is based on reader comments regarding their own personal experiences. A handful of users like yourself have reported no issues, but as you can see, the majority of comments are from users having specific troubles with the update.

I am using a nexus 4 and have been running lollipop for 2 weeks with no issues. This article is one sided and likely not written from personal experience.

Ditto to most of the comments on here. I'm calling Lollipop 'Sucker' because of what it makes me feel like for installing it on my Nexus4. Now I have to waste time rolling back to KitKat. Oh wait! That's right Sucker won't let me connect to Google Drive OR recognize a connection to a local PC so I CAN'T back my phone up.

What a joke and it would be funny too if I weren't the butt of it.

Hence the reason you pay more for Apple products. They work and if they don't, Apple gets in front of it real fast.

No more Android for me. This nightmare killed it for me.

Nexus 4 is smooth and feels great, like a new device. No issues except poor battery life, same as kitkat probably due to syncing 5 emails. Everything else is superb.

Silent mode - the new version - is absolutely terrible. What on Earth is Google thinking? These are changes for the sake of change. New interface is OK, nothing groundbreaking like the reviews - I mean, PR pieces - are saying. As an early adopter of Android, this update hurts. Why fix what wasn't broken? Although, I should have seen it with their awful Gmail overhauls. Might be an iPhone in my future.

I rolled back from Lollipop to Kitkat on my Nexus7 (2012) because it was unusable with Lollipop... slow and buggy.

The problems are so widespread the real question must be what is Google doing about it? When will a Lollipop fix be released?

Looks like I will be asking for a new tablet for Xmas. My Nexus 10 is now a paperweight. Thanks, Google.

I'll never buy another Android product again if this is how they handle a new software release. Same problems as everyone else. Obviously zero back level compatibility checking. And after a couple of weeks no updates to fix any of the bugs reported. If this had been Apple, Microsoft or IBM then they would have issued a backout release by now. Disgusted with Google's cavalier approach to existing users.

I would have never allowed the upgrade had I known the impact! Slower, screens blackout for extended periods of time, can't open YouTubes, and to top it all off, crash and reboots while rotating the screen.

Nexus 5 user running Android 5 since the initial "L developer preview". I've been on Android since the early days starting with the HTC Magic followed by the VZW Galaxy Nexus.

My N5/Lollipop experience has been nothing but positive. I first installed Vomer's Android L with MultiROM just to play around and ended up using it as my daily driver. I'm still running a preview build and am happy enough that I'm not in a hurry to update. FWIW, I clean flash each and every time.

Battery life has been exceptional. The phone is faster than it's ever been. No issues with the camera (almost always shoot in HDR+). I've used mobile hotspot with T-Mobile quite a bit. Aside from terribly inaccurate GPS issues, it's been my best phone/OS experience to date.

I've enjoyed the Chromecast. I've found the Nexus Player to be cool but have only used it a couple of times. Have a Nexus 6 on the way. Hopefully the experience is as good as the N5.

Same thing out here in BC. Battery drain, calendar doesn't work, closes internet window on its own, data turns off, slow searching, slow connecting to internet, hotspot won't stay on.

Nexus 7 almost unusable since installing Lollipop. Very slow and apps just randomly close during use. Google needs to do something about this and soon.

Nexus 5 32gb, camera issue -- 16:9 zoomed in and the picture is off to the left. 4:3 "Zoom" and HDR 16:9 work. One or 2 non essential apps crash, but other than that, everything else works. Waiting on 5.01

It's really sad what happened. So many unhappy people. I only hope issues will be fixed soon. My husband bought me new tablet for Christmas, because my Nexus 7 is useless.

Checked that my apps were Android 5 compatible, did an OTA update, then factory reset.

Like I do with Microsoft Windows, check the drivers, check the apps, wipe the PC and install from fresh.

I used to love my Nexus 7 but now it's almost unusable. Cuts out when using apps and freezes all the time. Getting really fed up with the poor service from Google, would have expected this fixed by now.

My Nexus 4 justs shuts down. Freezes and only works 20% of the time. My SMS doesn't send and notifications don't appear and then when they do, they repeatedly appear. I use my phone for everything. From running nextflix though my phone to the TV VOA a mini USB to HDMI cable to my emails. I had a few problems with the Nexus 4 before the update because the phone would sometimes shut off. I was hoping the update would amend this, but obviously not. Hate to say it! But I think I'm going to have to change from android and I never ever thought I would say that.

My Nexus 4 battery life is dire after the upgrade. I only hit the upgrade button because it said battery life IMPROVED. GSAM battery monitor shows 66% used in 7 hours and 50% of that was the screen which was only on for 32 mins in total.

Suppose I should be grateful the phone isn't freezing like some others.

My nexus 5 has a really weird battery drain. In 30 minutes, the battery drains away 40% and the weirder: thing this happened when I updated my phone, the led notification light stopped working and i had to format my whole phone and then it worked. Also I had a freaking hard time to get it into safe mode. This is getting out of hand and Google isnt doing about this.

Yep, my Nexus 4 phone is totally screwed up. Basically useless. Freezes, unresponsive most of the time, apps don't work, texting and calls don't work. Worthless, and it's been like this almost a week since I updated to this assbackwards new version. Can't backup my files because computer won't recognize Nexus 4 so I can't just do a factory reset or I'll lose all of my stuff. DO something Google...
