Adobe Spark Gives Marketers High-End, Do-It-Yourself Graphics

Despite the plethora of graphic design tools available to organizations, creating good visual content is often a labor-intensive process requiring many hours of work by highly trained professionals. A new suite of software by Adobe, however, is hoping to change that. The platform, called Adobe Spark, is designed to help non-professional designers create their own visual content.

Besides being a fun tool for students and individuals, the Spark platform could also prove to be a huge benefit for entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that may not have the resources necessary to maintain an internal department of graphic design specialists. According to Adobe, marketing staff can use Spark to create visual content themselves.

No Experience Necessary

"Today anyone can create content and share it via social media, but most people lack the skill, time and resources to create something that cuts through the online clutter," said Bryan Lamkin, executive vice president and general manager, Digital Media at Adobe. "With Adobe Spark, anyone can create authentic, professional looking visual content for their project, passion, cause or business."

According to Aubrey Cattell, Adobe Spark’s general manager, the platform will allow users on small budgets and with no prior design experience to create online versions of content such as flyers, brochures, and presentations, along with trending forms of communication such a memes, magazine-style blog posts, or explainer videos.

"We've made it easy for literally anyone to create three different kinds of content: social media posts and graphics, web stories, and animated videos," Cattell wrote in a blog post. "All you need is something to say and Adobe magic will take care of the rest with killer animation and beautiful designs to help bring your stories to life."

Users will be able to add text and filters to photos, record their voice, select from professional-quality soundtracks and cinematic motions, to create their posts.

Free Through Creative Cloud

The company is making Spark available for free to anyone with either an Adobe, Google, or Facebook login through its Creative Cloud platform. The service will consist of four separate apps including the Adobe Spark web app, a browser-based web app for creating social posts and graphics, web stories, and animated videos, and three iOS apps. Spark Post allows users to create social posts and graphics, Spark Page is geared toward creating stories, while Spark Video is for animated videos.

Adobe said it is also collaborating with Facebook Blueprint, the social network’s new global education and certification program for ad agencies and advertisers. The company will provide tutorials on the platform on how to successfully market themselves on the Facebook and Instagram platforms using Adobe Spark.

Spark is also partnering with Change.org, the social change platform, to co-create training materials for petitioners and change agents. Change.org petitioners will gain access to Adobe Spark resources for creating explainer videos for cause-based and crowd-funding campaigns that further their causes.
