Twitter Unveils New Design, May Benefit Business

Many of the changes that Twitter is implementing are undoubtedly going to attract more businesses. Now that Twitter has added pinned tweets, businesses can begin to use the platform like they use Facebook, by keeping important deals or announcements at the tops of their feeds.
 



Social networks are always modifying their appearances. But Twitter’s latest design update may completely alter the way that individuals and businesses use the site. Profiles will no longer be limited in functionality and tweets will be displayed in entirely new ways, something that businesses could learn to use to their advantages when interacting with customers.

A large part of the new design, which is beginning to roll out to users now, was influenced by Facebook and Google Plus. Each of the three networks now has a three-column interface on profiles and include large profile pictures as well as a background (cover) photo that spans the entire width of the page.

Pinned Tweets, Good For Business

The design changes in this update are substantial, but the way that Twitter is changing the way users control their tweets is also important. It is now possible to “pin” tweets, which ensures that they remain at the top of the feed. Alongside the addition of pinned tweets are “best tweets,” which appear larger if they have more retweets and favorites than other posts on a profile.

Facebook has remained one of the best ways for companies to stay in contact with consumers and since Facebook pages can be controlled more than Twitter accounts, they are great for business that want to post special deals. Now that Twitter has added pinned tweets, businesses can begin to use the platform like they use Facebook, by keeping important deals or announcements at the tops of their feeds.

Previously, even if a specific post was particularly important, it would quickly fall down a profile’s feed when new tweets were added. As a result, Twitter had not been an efficient network for many businesses.

Attracting More Users

Although many of the changes that Twitter is implementing are undoubtedly going to attract more businesses, regular users may find the enhanced profiles appealing as well. One of the things that had been holding Twitter back from Facebook-like success was its confusing interface. Now that profiles are structured in a way that reminds people of other social networks, it may seem like less of an inconvenience to start using the site.

On its blog, Twitter announced that it would be rolling out the new design over the next few weeks and explained how the site will now be easier to use. “Moment by moment, your Twitter profile shows the world who you are. Starting today, it will be even easier (and, we think, more fun) to express yourself through a new and improved web profile,” according to the blog post.

Some celebrities and large organizations have already had their profiles updated, and based upon the feedback from the network’s users, the new profiles are an improvement. Once the roll out is complete this month, Twitter may finally reach the much-coveted bigger audience it has been seeking.
