HELIOS Software announces its Universal File Server UB64 software -- a true cross-platform file server software solution, running on all major server platforms. Universal File Server integrates HELIOS EtherShare, PCShare, WebShare, iPad Document Hub, and IT Monitor software into a single product, to provide cross-platform, local and remote file sharing and syncing for Mac, Windows, Web, and iOS clients.

The new HELIOS Universal User licenses give companies high flexibility in serving all types of local and remote computers, workstations, and mobile devices. The cross-platform Spotlight indexing and searching capabilities provide fast and uniform access to content stored on a file server software for any connected client across the network. HELIOS Synchronization Service enables folders, volumes, and entire disks to be synced to make a second copy of the data available to better serve a remote location, or for backup purposes.

HELIOS Universal File Server software also includes HELIOS IT Monitor Server, which allows IT infrastructure monitoring with push notification to admins using iOS devices, upon server overload or service failure. HELIOS File Server software settings, including authentication and access permissions, are easily configured with HELIOS Admin, the graphical administration tool for Mac, Windows and Linux clients.

The HELIOS Universal File Server UB64 software provides a single file server solution for any type of client computer and mobile device, from just one vendor. Universal File Server delivers unprecedented levels of performance combined with industry-first unified search and file access, industry standard security, cross-platform remote administration, and IT monitoring.

Admin and user benefits of HELIOS Universal File Server UB64 include:

• Integrated support for any client including Mac, Windows, Web and iOS

• Provides industry standard protocols AFP, SMB/CIFS, HTTP

• Server based Spotlight content indexing and search from Mac, Windows, Web and iOS clients

• Unified server administration via HELIOS Admin application from Mac, Windows, and UNIX clients

• Runs on all major server platforms including Linux, Windows, Apple Mac OS X, Oracle Solaris, IBM AIX, as well as within VMware and Hyper-V VMs

To be honest, simple file sharing like this is something quite limited. There's a set of good file servers available but nowadays companies also need real document management, with not just file archiving but also collaboration, workflow and other more advanced features.
